NFL Sports Betting – Titans to End Six-Game Losing Streak

December 19, 2010

People who are really into football sports betting know that the season has really gone down the tubes for the Tennessee Titans, who are trying to end a six-game losing streak at home on Sunday. The opponent, the Houston Texans, are a team that has played it fast and loose and have at the same time played themselves out of the playoff race once again.

Kickoff is 1 PM ET at LP Field in Nashville for these two disappointing squads. In the NFL sports betting odds, Tennessee is favored by a point and a half, with the total on the game listed at 47 points.

NFL Sports Betting Odds:

Houston  +1.5

Total  47

Here are some of the trends as they impact NFL sports betting on this game:

  • Houston has played five of its last six games OVER the total
  • Houston has lost six of its last seven games SU
  • Houston has covered two of its last nine games
  • Houston has played five of its last six road games OVER the total
  • Houston has lost four of its last five road games SU
  • Tennessee has lost its last six games SU
  • Tennessee has covered one of its last six games
  • Tennessee has lost five of its last six home games SU
  • Tennessee has covered two of its last six home games
  • Tennessee has played seven of its last ten home games OVER the total

Houston was clinging to at least a glimmer of hope in its attempt to get to a playoff spot for the first time in team history when it hosted Baltimore on Monday night. They fell behind 28-7, then started to mount a comeback, as they often do. Finally, they tied it on a TD pass to Andre Johnson, followed by a two-point conversion, but Matt Schaub,  who had done a great job bringing this team back (393 yards passing) threw an interception returned for TD and that was the end of that, and they didn’t even get the cover in NFL sports betting. Gary Kubiak may want to hang a "For Sale" sign on his house at this point, because the best Houston can do is finish at .500.

Here are the head-to-head football betting trends that have a bearing on NFL sports betting with this game:

  • Six of the last nine meetings have gone OVER the total
  • Tennessee has won eight of the last eleven meetings SU
  • Four of the last five meetings in Nashville have gone OVER the total
  • Tennessee has won four of the last five meetings SU as the home team

These teams played just three weeks ago, and the Texans scored a 20-0 shutout, holding the Titans to 162 yards, when Rusty Smith was making his first NFL start. Since then, with Kerry Collins at the controls, Tennessee has gained 220 yards against Jacksonville and 365 against Indianapolis, a game where the scored a touchdown on the final play of the game to get the cover in NFL sports betting. Chris Johnson, who was rather underused, came back with 11 yards against the Colts.

Randy Moss has become almost a forgotten man, however. Moss has caught five passes in five games with this, his third team this season, and no doubt he’s grumbling. I’m not altogether certain that Kerry Collins can dissect a defense like he could a couple of seasons ago, and that may prevent the Titans from exploiting the big Houston weakness – in the secondary. Listen, Houston has enough offense to go on drives of 99 and 95 yards against Baltimore; they have the weapons, as we know, and they keep swinging in the fourth quarter (an NFL-high 114 points). They may be psychologically damaged a bit from that loss to the Ravens, but I don’t feel positive vibes from the dynamic between Bud Adams and Jeff Fisher right now. We’re taking with the underdog Texans in NFL sports betting for Sunday.
