With each team standing at 7-3, this could be a potential matchup of playoff teams. Let’s start with the home-team Ravens, who are coming off a dominating victory last Sunday.
Granted, the win was against maybe the worst team in the NFL (the Carolina Panthers), but anytime you beat someone 37-10 it’s always a good thing. In that game, the Ravens dominated from start to finish, putting up 17 first half points, before cruising to victory.
And like all of their other games this season, that victory was due to the continued development of quarterback Joe Flacco. While some questioned the third-year signal-caller, he was at his best last Sunday, completing 24 of 33 passes for 301 yards and a touchdown. That gives him just 11 touchdowns to one interception in the Ravens last five games. If there’s any reason to make Baltimore your NFL Sports Betting pick, Flacco may be it.
Meanwhile, when it comes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there really is no good reason to make them your Sunday pick. Which is just the way they like it. Tampa Bay has been doubted all year, yet comes into this weekend with a sparkling 7-3 record, and has been a favorite of bettors all season long, going 7-3 against the spread.
And just like Baltimore, the Buccaneers success needs to be credited to quarterback Josh Freeman. While his numbers don’t overwhelm, he continues to overwhelm opponents, having thrown 14 touchdowns and just five interceptions this season. Also, Tampa Bay’s running game continues to develop, as it’s now ranked 12th in the NFL. LeGarrette Blount continues to surprise many of his doubters, as the rookie from Oregon has now rushed for at least 80 yards in three of his last four games. Not coincidentally, those three games have all been Tampa Bay wins.
Unfortunately for the Buccaneers, the magic will run out on Sunday.
The truth is, no matter how you break things down, the Buccaneers have been the beneficiary of a pretty easy schedule, with their last three wins coming against Arizona, Carolina and San Francisco, three teams that are a combined 7-23 on the year. Going into Baltimore after playing those three patty-cakes will be no easy task.
And speaking of the Ravens, as exciting as Flacco is, the difference with them on Sunday will be the defense. Baltimore ranks sixth in the NFL in points allowed, and is also giving up just 101 yards per game, which ranks ninth in the league. It’s hard to see Blount matching the success he’s had early in the season again on Sunday.
In the end, look for Baltimore to have plenty of success on defense, and do just enough on offense to get a victory here. When it comes to this game, there’s only one NFL Sports Betting wager to make.
NFL Sports Betting Pick: Baltimore -7 ½
