NFL Props – Kansas City Chiefs O-U Interceptions
August 3, 2009
BetOnline is known for its unique props and their wide variety of sports exotics and some of the unique online betting futures they are offering for the upcoming NFL season is an over/under for team interceptions.
The Kansas City Chiefs total is set at a low 14 and online sports betting handicappers might want to take a good long look at the over.
The Chiefs have made a change in direction in the offseason and part of that new identity includes quarterback Matt Cassel, who was acquired with linebacker Mike Vrabel for a second-round pick.
On the surface, it looks like Cassel is an upgrade but at a closer examination, one might wonder if he’s in fact good enough to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
For one, starting for the New England Patriots with Randy Moss and Wes Welker at your disposal is one thing. Starting for a Chiefs offense that is bereft of talent is another.
Cassel is still unproven in the eyes of many pundits as a lot of players have looked good in the Patriots system and then fallen off the face of the Earth in a new environment.
While many people feel the “bust effect” is very real with Cassel, there are more issues even beyond that.
Cassel doesn’t have many targets to work with in Kansas City, which figures to be a problem when it comes to interceptions. Dwayne Bowe is a Pro Bowl-caliber wideout but how good will he be now that Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez is not distracting defensive attention? Beyond Bowe, the Chiefs only have Bobby Engram and Milton Bradley as veteran receivers.
On top of that, the Chiefs have a pedestrian offensive line and a running back, Larry Johnson, who doesn’t really want to be in Kansas City.
As if that’s not enough, Cassel is heading into a new offense with a new coaching staff. Not only will that hamper his production, it will slow the rest of the offense since everyone is stepping into a new scheme.
Lastly, Cassel received the biggest contract in franchise history this offseason, which has raised a lot of eye brows. The expectations and pressure on him is enormous and under that type of a burden, Cassel, who is still somewhat unproven, can wilt.
Because of all of these factors, sports betting sharps should bet that the Chiefs will throw more than 14 interceptions as a team this season.
