NFL Pro Bowl Betting – Expect Another Shootout in the Annual NFL All Star Game

January 30, 2011

The cream of the NFL crop has gathered in Honolulu this year for a chance to showcase their talent in the biggest exhibition game of them all.

NFL Pro Bowl Betting is a difficult proposition for the most part but further review of the rosters suggests that one team has the slight edge in Sunday’s game.

NFL Pro Bowl

Aloha Stadium Honolulu, HI

Broadcast: FOX

NFL Pro Bowl Betting Lines:

AFC: +1 (-110)

NFC: -1 (-110)

Total: 63 points

The AFC will catch a minor break this year with the Green Bay Packers players left preparing for the Big Game instead of getting ready for the All Star “Classic”. NFL Pro Bowl Betting must take into account that the NFC will be without some of the more potent offensive weapons in the NFL and will be forced to play without some of the more dominating defensive players in the game.

The AFC has a distinct advantage at quarterback. It’s too bad that Tom Brady went under the knife last week – his presence is always a treat. Oh well, the AFC will have to turn to Peyton Manning and Philip River (the #1 and #2 passers in the NFL during the regular season) with Matt Cassel slated for mop up duty.

The quarterbacks will be handing off to Arian Foster, Jamaal Charles and Chris Johnson. Yes, it’s a pretty nice problem to have! Andre Johnson will sit out the game as the best AFC threat but there is still Reggie Wayne, Brandon Lloyd, Dwayne Bowe and Wes Welker to throw the ball to. Offensively, the AFC is stacked obviously and should hold a decided edge in both the quarterback and running back categories.

Defensively, the AFC will have Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Darrelle Revis and Nnamdi Asomugha at their disposals in the backfield and should be able to limit the damage that the NFC will do through the air.

The NFC is currently the NFL Pro Bowl Betting favorite despite many of the voted Pro Bowlers participating in the Super Bowl next week. Aaron Rodgers will sit out but Michael Vick, Matt Ryan and Drew Brees will be in uniform for the NFC. Vick could be especially dangerous in a game that has traditionally been defense-free.

The running backs for the NFC are Michael Turner, Adrian Peterson and Steven Jackson. Like the quarterbacks, the AFC has a slight edge. But as we have all seen, the NFC’s rushers are no slouches and can do their share of damage as well.

Where the NFC will have an NFL Pro Bowl Betting advantage is in the pass catching department. Roddy White, Calvin Johnson, DeSean Jackson and Larry Fitzgerald will all suit up for an NFC team that will obviously have their hands full with Revis, Asomugha, Reed and Devin McCourty. If the quarterbacks can get the receivers the ball, this game could be over early!

NFL Pro Bowl Betting Outlook:

The AFC appears, on paper to have the better team heading into Sunday’s game and the AFC holds a narrow 6-5 edge in the last 11 Pro Bowls. Rivers, Manning and Cassel should have their way with depleted NFC defense in this contest – the rules against staunch pass rushing play into the AFC’s favor even more. I like the AFC’s secondary in this game to slow down the NFC’s passing game, not stop them, on their way to yet another high scoring victory.

The Over is likely the most prudent NFL Pro Bowl Betting opportunity in this game. The Over is 9-2 in the last 11 games and the average total in those games is 65.7. With the Total currently set at 63 points (you can find it as low as 62 ½), bet the Over in a Defense-Challenged game!

NFL Pro Bowl Betting Pick: AFC +1 and the Over – 63 points
