NFL Preseason Week 3 – Don’t Sweat these Best Bets

September 12, 2011

If you’re betting favorites thus far, you’re killing it in preseason as they are 21-11 against the spread. Now will this square cracker trend continue to pummel the books, or will there be an adjustment finally this week?

Well, there will be an adjustment, but there will still be slightly more favorites covering than undie dogs. This means you should listen to me so you don’t lose your shorts.

Week 3 Preseason Solid Plays:

Washington Redskinsat Baltimore Ravens – Thursday, August 25 at 8:00 ET – ESPN-TV
Washington Redskins – (+5)
Baltimore Ravens – (-5)
Over/Under Total – (33)

Quarterback battle with John Beck (who?) trying to take the job from Rex Grossman. Head Coach Mike Shanahan is going to keep us guessing by waiting until the final minute to announce a starter. This is so suspenseful and interesting. NOT!

I have to give props to the Skins defense this Preseason after trading away Albert Haynesworthless to the Pats. What really sucks is that 300 plus piece of dung is actually working over there. I don’t like Washington, but I hate seeing teams get blatantly screwedby prima Donnas (or Alberts).

I know Preseason doesn’t matter, but Washington is only allowing 168 yards of total offense per game leading the NFL thus far. The problem is that the starters on most teams will probably be playing at least a half this week. I would expect Baltimore to show what they are REALLY about, and it’s ugly for Skins.

Bet Ravens -5 over Redskins

Green Bay Packers at Indianapolis Colts – Friday, August 26 at 8:00 ET – CBS-TV
Green Bay Packers – (-9)
Indianapolis Colts – (+9)
Over/Under Total – (39)

The Packers at the Colts would be DA BOMB usually. Now it’s more like DA M-160 which ain’t bad. I know Peyton Manning is hurt and may miss the opener in regular season, and Indy has been laying down like Kim Kardashian trying to turn whoredom into stardom (it worked).

This is still the Super Bowl Champions, and we get to see Rodgers and company try not to show what they have while having to show a lot. Entiende?

Indianapolis will be bearing down trying to bring life back to the team and the fans at home, and I can’t see a quality team like this going down by 10 or more points. If they do, then believe everything you hear about the team only winning 6 games without Manning if it happens.

Colts are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 Preseason starts, but I think that 9 points is too many.

Bet Colts +9 over Packers

New England Patriots at Detroit Lions – Saturday, August 27 at 8:00 ET – CBS-TV
New England Patriots – (-4)
Detroit Lions – (+4)
Over/Under Total – (44)

If you like scoring, preseason NFL football is usually not in your wheelhouse (what is that) until New England travels to Detroit for Saturday night football. Both teams are 2-0 ATS and 2-0 on their games being OVER the total.

This is the only matchup this week with two undefeated teams, but don’t let that fool you. The Lions are a young team and still meshing together while the Pats are a Bill Belichick “take no prisoners no matter what the game is” team that is already looking like destroyers.

I’m on board with all the Lion hype that they make the NFL Playoffs this year, but the two wins they have in preseason thus far were against the Browns and the Bengals. I’m sorry but even if Brady only plays a series, the Lions are getting a reality slap like Dr. Phil needs just because he sucks.

Bet Patriots -4 over Lions and Bet OVER 44 Total Points on this game

New Orleans Saints at Oakland Raiders – Sunday, August 28 at 8:00 ET – NBC-TV
New Orleans Saints – (-5)
Oakland Raiders – (+5)
Over/Under Total – (38.5)

You couldn’t have been a Sportscenter freak without hearing about Terrelle Pryor all week being picked up by that genius (not quite) Al Davis in the third round for the Raiders. This will turn out to be another in the long line of wasted, no return duds that halfwit is infamous for.

Look, I would love to tell you this game is easy and to take the Saints but I can’t. This is one of those totally out of whack freak-a-leek games that Petey Pablo should be singing the national anthem at. Now that MF has some kickin-ass jamzsuckas!

Bet OVER 38.5 Total Points in Saints/Raiders Game
