NFL Preseason Free-Picks for Friday Night Betting – Favre makes his Debut

August 21, 2009

Titans Running Game To Mess With Sloppy Cowboys Defense
The Tennessee Titans used some trickery against Buffalo, and relied on Vince Young to get past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In both games, they relied on their stout running game, powered by LenDale White and Chris Johnson, to survive both games. And the truth is, Vince Young, who will see a bulk of the action to get him in game shape should Kerry Collins Year 2 go sideways, is desperately trying to prove he is still the franchise guy the Titans believed him to be.

The Cowboys, meanwhile, lost 31-10 to the Oakland Raiders while allowing Darren McFadden and company to steamroll their somewhat fearsome front line. It’s not Tony Romo and Roy Williams I’m worried about. It’s Dallas’s pitiful reserves I have concerns about when they’re trying to stop Chris Brown and Vince Young, both of whom started in the NFL not too long ago.

Furious Free Pick: Titans +3 (OVER 36)

OH MY FREAKING GOD! IT’S BRETT FAVRE! BRETT FAVRE!!!!!!
Yes, Favre is a Minnesota Viking and whether we can expect to see him against KC is still up in the air. The Vikings and Favre fooled the world when they pretended like he didn’t sign a contract two months ago, jilting the Vikings to stay retired…for 14 seconds. Now the Vikes have Favre under center, and their fans couldn’t be happier. This is a team that is complete through and through, and KC is simply no match for them.

The question is only if Tavaris/Sage can play after having their spirits crushed by the league leader in khaki shorts. The Chiefs were punished 10-16 by the Houston Texans and now they have to contend with the Vikings’ incredible offensive line and perhaps the best rushing game in town. Good luck with that, KC.

Furious Free Pick: Minnesota -3 (UNDER 52)

Marc Bulger Out Against Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons are gearing up for a disappointing NFL season, even though they don’t know it. If you didn’t want to believe it because of Matt Ryan’s pending sophomore slump, or Michael Turner’s inevitable pitfall, then put this in your pipe: they lost to the Detroit Lions in preseason action.

Of course, if you’re the St. Louis Rams then failure has been your mode du plume. With Bulger nursing a broken pinkie like a pouty baby, Kyle Boller takes his place. The Falcons should make short work of the Rams either way, but they’re a team I’m watching closely because I think the oddsmakers are going to manipulate the public’s overinflated trust in Atlanta against the betting community. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

Furious Free Pick: Atlanta -3 (OVER 38)
