NFL Predictions – Favre Heads Back To New York
October 10, 2010
After four weeks of build up and NFL predictions gone awry, Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Brett Favre will make his return to Broadway when his team takes on the New York Jets this Monday night. Favre’s career-long tenure with the Green Bay Packers came to an end when he signed on with the Jets two seasons ago, and after that experiment failed, bolted to Minnesota where he came within one score of reaching a Super Bowl. While the future Hall of Fame signal-caller enjoyed greater success with the Vikings than he had with the Jets, New York took a step forward as well with another new quarterback in Mark Sanchez. Led by first-year head coach Rex Ryan, the rookie led the Jets to the AFC Championship game, where they fell to the Indianapolis Colts.

Minnesota Vikings @ New York Jets

Broadcast: ESPN
NFL Odds: Vikings +3.5, Jets -3.5
Total: 39
Fast-forward to year two of Favre’s time with the Vikings and Sanchez’s with the Jets, and you have a week five Prime Time clash between these teams. While the Jets rebounded from a week one loss to the Baltimore Ravens with three straight victories, the Vikings are looking to claw their way back to .500 following the bye week. Minnesota will also debut a new weapon when they take to the field at New Meadowlands Stadium, with Randy Moss joining the team for his second tenure as a Vikings’ receiver.
NFL Predictions: What The Vikings Will Have To Do To Win
The injuries to wide receivers Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin have played a significant role in Minnesota’s 1-2 start, which is why when a possible deal for Vincent Jackson fell through the Vikings lobbied so hard to bring in Moss. The Pro Bowl receiver gives Favre the downfield threat he’s lacked this season, and should open things up for Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart in the running game. The Vikings defense will have to shut down the Jets run, and force Sanchez to win the game with his arm.
NFL Predictions: What The Jets Will Have To Do To Win
There is a bit of irony here as the Jets prepare to defend Moss for the second time in four weeks, especially considering that the reason cornerback Darrelle Revis will not be able to cover him is that he was injured covering Moss in a win over the Patriots. The Jets will try to rough up the veteran Favre, and the more they get him on his back the chances for success will improve. Sanchez will need to continue to show improvement, as the onus will be on his with the Vikings shutting down the run.
Outlook & NFL Predictions
The Vikings are coming off the bye week and fully rested heading in to this game against the Jets, and that will not be a good thing for Sanchez and company on offense. Moss gives the Minnesota offense the element that they have lacked, and will be the difference in securing the win.
NFL Predictions: Vikings +3.5
