NFL Predictions – Denver Will Give the Mighty Ravens a Run

October 10, 2010

Preseason NFL Predictions appear to be right on the money. The Denver Broncos are a .500 team and the Baltimore Ravens are one of the better all around teams in the NFL. Sunday’s game, on paper, should be an easy win for Baltimore but the Broncos are playing a tough, inspired brand of football right now.

The Denver Broncos and their high powered passing attack head to Baltimore and most NFL Predictions have the Ravens winning big. Denver boasts the best passing game in the NFL and a middle of the road defense.

Kyle Orton is having a Pro-Bowl calibre season – hard to believe I know. He has guided his team to a 339.5 yards per game average this season and has made household names out of Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal.

It’s a good thing that Orton is playing at such a high level. No NFL predictions could have guessed that the Broncos would have such an anaemic running game. They are dead last in the NFL, gaining only 220 yards total in the four games that they’ve played this season – a 2.2 yards per carry average. Knowshon Moreno should be back from injury this week, providing at least a glimmer of hope for a truly embarrassing rushing attack.

Denver’s defense has been nothing special. Baltimore should be able to take advantage of it through the air and on the ground.

The Baltimore Ravens gained a share of the AFC North lead with a last second win last week. Many NFL predictions had Baltimore emerging out of the AFC North this season and with a revamped offense and their typically stout defense – why not?

Joe Flacco has been decent this season and has really benefitted from the arrival of Anquan Boldin. With Derek Mason and TJ Houshmandzadeh in the fold, the passing game will improve and possibly ascend to the top third of the NFL by season`s end. Against Denver`s pass defense, they should prove to be too much to handle.

Ray Rice has been just OK this season and has yet to see the end zone. Willis McGahee continues to be an excellent change of pace back. The offense will have to convert more of their chances – they are the 27th scoring offense in the NFL.

Where the Ravens will have the distinct advantage in this game is on defense. They are the second ranked unit overall in the NFL and give up the fewest yards of any team in the league (247.5 per game).

NFL Predictions Outlook:

Baltimore could be one on the most balanced teams in the NFL. Their problem has been scoring when they have the chance. The Denver Broncos have proven to be one of the most opportunistic but one dimensional offences in the league – something that the Baltimore defense will be able to exploit. Baltimore should win this game but seven points seems a little rich for my blood.

NFL Predictions: Denver Broncos to cover the 7 points
