NFL Predictions – Cowboys Fight To Keep Season Alive Against NFC East Rivals

October 23, 2010

Most NFL betting predictions would agree that it seems appropriate to have week seven of the NFL season conclude with America’s team putting their 2010-11 season on the line, and that certainly is the case heading in to this Monday night’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants at Cowboys Stadium.

Dallas has opened their year with just one win through the first five games, and it’s scary to think that they are only now entering the toughest part of their schedule.

With home dates against the Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars preceding a pair of road games against New York and the Green Bay Packers, the odds are stacked against the Cowboys’ chances at getting to play in this year’s Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium. Those odds will turn next-to-none if Dallas cannot get back in the win column this Monday night.

New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys

Monday October 25, 2010 – 8:30 PM ET

Cowboys Stadium, Dallas, Texas

Broadcast: ESPN

NFL Odds: Giants +3, Cowboys -3

Totals: 44.5

The Giants enter this game looking to win their fourth straight, tied for top spot in the NFC East standings with the Philadelphia Eagles. This will mark New York’s final game before the bye week, and head coach Tom Coughlin would love to see his team enter the break on a winning note.

NFL Predictions: What The Giants Will Have To Do To Win

After losing two of their first three games, the Giants made a commitment to get back to the running game that was so successful for the team in the past, and it has worked with running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs combining for an average of just under five yards per carry with seven scores this season. New York’s defense has gotten back to that top level, ranking in the top-seven against both the run and the pass, and will need to prove its worth with a tough road game against a talented and desperate offense.

NFL Predictions: What The Cowboys Will Have To Do Win

The Cowboys will have to do anything it takes to win, as a loss to the Giants could very well end their season. Dallas is ranked fourth in the league in pass offense, but will need an improved effort in the running game, which may need to come from an increased emphasis by offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. Head coach Wade Phillips has the defense ranked in the top-ten against both the run and pass, but the Cowboys will need to buckle down specifically against the rush in this game to get the win.

Outlook & NFL Predictions

The Cowboys are too talented not to win eventually, and although penalties were the main factor in last weekend’s loss, character should be on their side in this game. Dallas has a proud and talented group of players on the depth chart, and it could be a case of refusing to be embarrassed any longer that sparks the Cowboys to their first home win of the season.

NFL Predictions: Cowboys -3
