NFL Pre-Season – Week Two Could Answer More Questions

Week two in the NFL Pre-season promises to answer more questions as teams should be putting their starters into tougher positions than during the first week of pre-season.

The New England Patriots surprised everyone by playing Tom Brady for almost an entire half in the Patriots first game of 2009. How did Brady do? Fantastic, but the question remains on whether or not it was Brady who was great or the Eagles’ defense that was porous.

I prefer to go with the Eagles defense being porous as they no doubt will need to use the next few weeks before the start of the NFL football betting Season to get everyone acquainted with the fact that Jimmie Johnson won’t be patrolling the sidelines with Andy Reid calling out defensive schemes and plays.

The Patriots play Cincinnati on Thursday. The Eagles play Indianapolis on Thursday as well.

A few other games that fans should remember to watch, if not wager on, will be Dallas vs. Tennessee, the Giants vs. Chicago, and San Diego vs. Arizona.

Dallas vs. Tennessee should be interesting on two fronts. The first, of course, is whether or not Vince Young, who was 9 for 14 with a touchdown in the Titans’ pre-season game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, can continue to prove to the entire world, much less the NFL and the Titans, that he is mature enough to play quarterback. Say that sentence out loud and you will realize how ridiculous it sounds. But, it is what it is.

Dallas just needs to show that they have the defense and offensive line to contend in the super tough AFC East. The Giants and Eagles both look exceptionally strong this year and the Cowboys are going to need more than just Romo dumping his girlfriend to be tough in the division.

The G-Men will be looking for a starting wide-out in their game against the Chicago Bears. Expect the Giants to play a lot of different sets with Eli Manning at quarterback in hopes of pairing their wide receiver choices down to a handful in this game. Chicago will be looking for Jay Cutler and Devin Hester to develop some sort of chemistry. Cutler wasn’t that impressive in his first game as the Bears’ quarterback, but it’s early.

Both San Diego and Arizona should provide some interesting information to bettors as both teams will be looking for a running back to take the lead in their respective offenses. The Chargers have two excellent ones in LaDanian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles. Both guys averaged less than 3 yards a carry in the Chargers’ first game of the season. Arizona will be looking for a starter as Chris “Beanie” Wells and Tim Hightower will be battling for the top spot. Wells hasn’t impressed and there are doubts in Cardinals’ camp as to whether or not Hightower can carry the load.
