NFL Playoff Power Rankings – Who’s Hot and Who’s Not Heading Into the Postseason
January 6, 2011
Question, how can you wager on the NFL postseason without first checking out the NFL betting Playoff Power Rankings? Here’s a list of who we like heading into next weekend’s Wild Card Round.
1. New England Patriots (14-2 SU, 10-5-1 ATS): We’re guessing if you’ve been watching NFL football all season, than it’s no surprise that the Patriots have the top spot heading into the postseason. They’ve won an incredible eight straight, and won four of their last five by at least four touchdowns. Not to mention they’ll have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They were 8-0 at Gillette Stadium this year.

2. Atlanta Falcons (13-3 SU, 11-5 ATS): Honestly, after New England, the NFL Playoff Power Rankings could’ve gone in any number of directions. However, after much debate, we decided to go with Atlanta. Like New England, Atlanta will have home-field advantage leading up to the Super Bowl, where the Falcons went 7-1. Beware though, their one loss at the Georgia Dome came to New Orleans, a team they could play in the second round.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4 SU, 10-6 ATS): In the third spot, we’ll take the Steelers. There’s nothing sexy about Pittsburgh, but all they do is win football games with a defense that ranked first in the NFL, allowing just 14.5 points per game. Plus, no team has more big-time playoff experience than these guys. Several players have been part of two Super Bowl champions, and most all were on the roster when Pittsburgh beat Arizona in the big game a few years ago.
4. Chicago Bears (11-5 SU, 9-6-1 ATS): There might not have been any more surprising team this season than Chicago, which finished 11-5, and won the NFC North. Want to know what the biggest thing Chicago has going for them? They’ve already beaten both of the teams which they could face in their playoff opener (the winner of Green Bay and Philadelphia) in Chicago this season.
5. Philadelphia Eagles (10-6 SU, 7-9 ATS): Of all the teams that will be playing on Wild Card weekend, no one elicits more fear from their opponents than the Philadelphia Eagles. Of course that’s thanks to quarterback Michael Vick, who was a dual-threat maestro this year, throwing for over 3,000 yards and rushing for close to 600 more. Speedy wide receiver D’Sean Jackson averaged an unheard of 22 yards per catch.
6. Baltimore Ravens (12-4 SU, 8-7-1 ATS): Of all the non-division winners, there isn’t a club that ranks higher on the NFL Playoff Power Rankings than the Ravens. Baltimore enters these playoffs playing excellent football, having won four in a row and six of seven. Their defense ranks third in the NFL, allowing just 16.9 points per game.
7. New Orleans Saints (10-6 SU, 10-5-1 ATS): Can the Super Bowl champions make it two Vince Lombardi trophies in a row? It won’t be easy, but they’ve still got Drew Brees, and more importantly a manageable path to the big football betting game. New Orleans plays at Seattle this weekend, followed by a trip to Atlanta, a place they won at two weeks ago.
8. Green Bay Packers (10-6 SU, 9-7 ATS): Say what you want about Green Bay, but to their credit, the Packers had to beat both the Giants and Bears just to get here. Their playoffs started two weeks ago.
9. Indianapolis Colts (10-6 SU, 8-7-1 ATS): Yes the Colts have Peyton Manning, and yes they’ve got the opening round of the playoffs at their place. But even if they get by the Jets in Round 1, do they have enough healthy bodies to go on the road and win at Pittsburgh the following week?
10. New York Jets (11-5 SU, 9-7 ATS): Speaking of the J-E-T-S, do they have what it takes to hoist Vince Lombardi’s trophy? If the most recent weeks are any indication, probably not, as they finished just 2-3 down the stretch. However, that one win was in Pittsburgh. Hmm?
11. Kansas City Chiefs (10-6 SU, 9-7 ATS): As we start to wrap up the NFL Playoffs Power Rankings, what do we make of the Chiefs? Kansas City opens up at home Sunday against the Ravens, but then again is that a good thing? Kansas City lost at Arrowhead Stadium 31-10 to Oakland on Sunday.
12. Seattle Seahawks (7-9 SU, 7-9): The first team in the history of the NFL to win their division at 7-9. In a related story, they’re also the last team in the NFL Playoffs Power Rankings. Not surprising, huh?
