NFL Playoff Betting – Which Teams Are Best Against The Spread?
January 14, 2011
By the time NFL Playoff Betting rolls around, savvy gamblers know which teams are the smart ones to wager on.
So who are the smartest picks heading into the NFL Divisional Weekend? Let’s take a look.
1. Atlanta Falcons (13-3 SU, 11-5 ATS): Although the Patriots and Steelers get more attention league-wide, it was actually the Falcons who had the best record against the spread this season. Atlanta finished 11-5 in favor of bettors in 2010, including covering in seven of their last eight games.

Maybe most importantly, the Falcons were a solid 5-3 against the spread at home, an important number, considering they’ll be playing all playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl at home. Included in that 5-3 home record was a cover against the Packers back on the last weekend of November. Atlanta will host Green Bay this Sunday.
2. New England Patriots (14-2 SU, 10-5-1 ATS): Simply put, is there a team that you feel more comfortable wagering on during the NFL Playoff Betting than the Patriots? Not only did New England have the second best against the NFL spread record in all of the NFL, but they were at their best down the stretch too, going 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games.
Remember too, nobody puts up points in bunches quite like the Patriots, as New England won five of their last six games by double digits. All of a sudden, their 8 ½ point spread against the Jets this weekend doesn’t seem so high, does it?
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4 SU, 10-6 ATS): Staying with the theme of solid AFC teams to wager on, how about the Steelers? Pittsburgh was a solid 10-6 against the spread, and covered in four of their last five games.
Pittsburgh was a solid 5-3 against the spread in cozy Heinz Field. However savvy bettors know that they actually lost to the Ravens (straight up and against the spread) at home once already this year.
4. Chicago Bears (11-5 SU, 9-6-1 ATS): Finally, we head to Chicago, where despite an NFC North title, a solid 11-5 mark, and one of the best records against the spread, the Bears are still getting little love from the public.
But while Jay Cutler and company enter their postseason opener confident, be wary when taking them in your NFL Playoff Betting picks. The Bears were a very impressive 5-2-1 against the spread on the road, but only 4-4 at Soldier Field. Included in those losses was a Week 6 loss against Seattle, the team they’ll be hosting this Sunday.
