NFL Playoff Betting Picks – Eagles at Giants

January 11, 2009

Can The Eagles Topple The Football Giants?

Arrogance is a funny thing. It can create a champion, but it can also destroy one. Tom Coughlin has a proven coaching system that works. It’s hard to doubt him at this point. Ever since Tiki Barber slammed him in the media, retired, and then had to watch them with the Superbowl from the booth, Coughlin’s been nearly untouchable by the media.

Well then it’s a good thing I’m still drunk from last night!

Here’s the thing, Coughlin. You can’t replace Plaxico Burress with Mario Manningham. You can’t replace Osi Umenyiora with Justin Tuck. You can’t replace Brandon Jacobs with Ahmad Bradshaw. You are not the New England Patriots.

When you have the arrogance to drop your best players and fill them in with “whoever ya got”, then it doesn’t work. Andy Reid may be the type of guy that destroys everything he touches (except hilarious challenges), but at least he showed loyalty to the guy that has sacrificed himself for this team because he had to. I can’t believe I’m actually praising Andy Reid right now, but Coughlin has gone off the deep end.

NFL Betting Trends
-Philadelphia is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games
-Philadelphia is 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games on the road
-Philadelphia is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against New York
-New York is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games
-New York is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games at home

The Giants ended the season with two games that say plenty about their resolve. They barely beat Carolina in a game that they absolutely had to win. Good. Awesome. Check! Then they lose by one-point to Minnesota, who we learned last week, is awful. How can you really have all that faith in the Giants after you watching Philadelphia slaughter Minnesota in the fourth quarter last week?

Philadelphia Eagles (9-6-1) vs. New York Giants (12-4)

Listen, you know I don’t like McNabb. I hate Andy Reid. I think Westbrook is one of the best players in the league, and the Eagles’ defense is underperforming. But the Giants have burned up their good fortune by peaking too soon. Now they have to defend the hill from the rising Eagles, and I just don’t see it happening. The Eagles have all the momentum in the world rolling behind them, and are unified after the benching of McNabb helped mobilize this team.

You can not say the same about the fractionalized Giants who have watched one superstar leave after the other. You just can’t. But that’s what happens when your main coaching fuel is arrogance.
