November 4, 2010

Week 9 brings us past the halfway point of the regular season (at least for now, until the NFL expands its regular season).

On Sunday, we’ll see the Miami Dolphins put their perfect road record to the test in Baltimore, the Buffalo Bills play a “home game” in Toronto, Canada, we’ll find out if the New Orleans Saints can keep momentum and we’ll see Bill Belichick square off against his former pupil, Eric Mangini.

Here are some NFL Picks Week 9:

Miami Dolphins @ Baltimore Ravens

Sunday November 7, 2010 – 1:00 PM ET

The Miami Dolphins are a perfect 4-0 on the road but are 0-3 at home. The good news is that this week, they are back on the road but the bad news is that they are playing in Baltimore.

The Ravens are coming off of a bye week, but more importantly, they are coming off of a contest where their defense was shredded for 500 yards by the Buffalo Bills. They are angry and rested, and the Dolphins will be a bit fatigued playing their second straight away from home.

NFL Picks Week 9: Ravens -5

Chicago Bears @ Buffalo Bills

Sunday November 7, 2010 – 1:00 PM ET

The Buffalo Bills should be returning home this week to face the Chicago Bears but instead, they have to travel to Toronto for their “home” game. That’s a real kick in the pants for the Bills, who have been playing well in their last two games and definitely deserved to win at least one of those contests.

But the reality is that they are playing in Toronto where the fans won’t really be behind an 0-7 team, and they are facing a Bears team that is rested after their bye week.

The Bears struggle with strong defensive teams who can get to the quarterback and force Jay Cutler into mistakes. Off a bye, Mike Martz will have his offense ready to rock and they’ll win and cover against the Bills.

NFL Picks Week 9: Bears -3

New Orleans Saints @ Carolina Panthers

Sunday November 7, 2010 – 1:00 PM ET

Are the New Orleans Saints back? It’s hard to say, but one thing we know is that they won’t stumble against the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers had a chance to keep their momentum going with a win over St. Louis last week but they weren’t even close. This Panthers squad is banged up all over the place and they aren’t that good to begin with.

If the Panthers could play turnover-free and run the ball, they’d have a chance to compete in this game. Considering how sloppy quarterbacks Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen have been this season, that’s unlikely to happen.

Bet the Saints to earn another win and stay on track in the NFC South.

NFL Picks Week 9: Saints

New England Patriots @ Cleveland Browns

Sunday November 7, 2010 – 1:00 PM ET

It’s the teacher versus the student on Sunday as Eric Mangini welcomes his former team, the New England Patriots. The Browns have been competitive all season long and they entered the bye week with lots of confidence after upending the New Orleans Saints.

Even so, you’d be harder pressed to find any team playing better than the Patriots. They are 6-1 and atop the NFL betting once again. Had this spread been bigger, we’d have second thoughts but 4.5 is a small enough line for the Patriots to cover against a weak Browns defense – even if they are well-prepared off a bye.

NFL Picks Week 9: Patriots -4.5
