NFL Picks Week 5 – Quick Bullets On All The Games!

October 8, 2010

If you don’t have time to read every in-depth analysis of the games this weekend, then I’ll dole out some quick NFL picks for Week 5 right now. Strap in tight, because this is going to be a doozy. For more detailed breakdowns, check out more in the Locker Room. But for now, here are the off-the-cuff thoughts on the game that matter for your Week 5 betting.

BALTIMORE RAVENS -7.0 over Denver Broncos
I’m not saying that Denver is a bad team, because I think Kyle Orton is way better than people think. The Ravens have a very nasty habit of making teams look awful, and their defense will shut down the one-trick Broncos easily.

BUFFALO BILLS -1.5 over Jacksonville Jaguars
If you trust the Jaguars just because they beat the Colts, you’re an idiot. They’re 1-6 SU and ATS in their last 7 road games, and I don’t care how bad the Bills are. The warm weather Jaguars offense freezes in Orchard Park this weekend.

Kansas City Chiefs +7.0 over INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
The Chiefs are dangerous on every level of the game. They can score on defense, offense and special teams and this Colts team is giving up scoring opportunities every week. I don’t trust them as an NFL pick in Week 5.

St. Louis Rams +3.0 over DETROIT LIONS
Sam Bradford over Shaun Hill. Steven Jackson over Jahvid Best. The Rams haven’t proven anything on the road, but all Detroit does is give up massive yards per game. Sounds like a coming out party for Bradford, and another reason for Detroit fans to dump garbage on Shaun Hill’s front lawn.

CLEVELAND BROWNS +3.0 over Atlanta Falcons
The betting public is overvaluing the Falcons. They’re great in terms of relativity (i.e. no clear cut favorite this year), and I think Cleveland is way better at home than people think. They’ve posted a tight win against Cincinnati and a tight loss to the Chiefs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +6.5 over CINCINNATI BENGALS
Bucs are better than people think. Bengals are way worse than people think. Everything points to a complete Bengals implosion in 2010, and a loss to the Young Bucs will only propel them further towards Disasterville.

CAROLINA PANTHERS -1.5 over Chicago Bears
This game has 9-6 written all over it.

Green Bay Packers -2.5 over WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Clinton Portis’s injury is almost off-set by Barnett’s season ender, but Green Bay has been dynamite this season on the scoreboard. Washington’s picked up two wins off of two pathetic performances by Philadelphia and Dallas. Green Bay won’t offer them such a chance.

HOUSTON TEXANS -3.0 over New York Giants
The most nerve wracking matchup for NFL picks in Week 5. The Texans might be without Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels and Jacoby Jones. And I still like them over the Giants. That’s how lowly I think of New York this year so far.

ARIZONA CARDINALS +7.0 over New Orleans Saints
The Saints should be -14.0 point favorites and an easy NFL pick in Week 5, but they’re simply not as good as we thought. No tape to study on Max Hall makes this a dangerous bet. The public will pile on the Saints, but you’re smarter than that. Play it safe. The Saints haven’t covered all season.

San Diego Chargers -6.0 over OAKLAND RAIDERS
The Chargers are 10-0 SU against the Raiders over the past 5 years. They’re also 7-3 ATS. The only reason Oakland’s been any good this year is because Darren McFadden has been productive. Guess who’s injured and inactive this weekend?

Tennessee Titans +7.0 over DALLAS COWBOYS
The Cowboys showed flashes of brilliance against a completely flat Houston Texans team, but then lost all the momentum by resting on a bye week. They won’t pick up where they left off as Chris Johnson runs rampant in this matchup.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS -3.0 over Philadelphia Eagles
This is me being terrified of the Niners at home, especially since Philadelphia can’t seem to stop the run (or anything). Alex Smith will give San Francisco fans a reason not to hate him so much, while the inverse will happen to Kolb in Philadelphia.

Minnesota Vikings +3.5 over NEW YORK JETS
The Jets are a team that plays great when everything is going right, but when the wheels fall off the bus, they panic and shut down in games. Minnesota has a great defense, and an offense that will get a significant boost with Randy Moss back in the purple and gold. Don’t trust the Jets in this game. The bubble is going to burst on them as an NFL pick in Week 5.
