NFL Picks – Week 11 – Interesting Questions for Raiders, Bills, Cowboys, ‘Skins
November 20, 2010
In our NFL picks for Week 11 we will see some interesting questions answered – can the Oakland Raiders keep things going in their winning streak? Will the Buffalo Bills be able to follow up on their first win of the season? Will the Dallas Cowboys play hard again for new coach Jason Garrett? How will the Washington Redskins react to the embarrassment of giving up 59 points on Monday night? We take a look at all of that with our NFL picks for Week 11.

Oakland has won three straight. Can they make it four in a row against Pittsburgh? A lot depends on whether you feel the Raiders are for real based on these three wins against teams with questionable heart from the two worst divisions in football. yes, they want to run the football and they’ve done it well, with 679 yards over the three games. But that is where they run into a brick wall of sorts. That is not to say that Pittsburgh will completely shut down the Raider running game, but when you’re facing a team that allows 2.8 yards a carry, you may have to find a "Plan B" and do it in a hurry. And when Jacoby Ford, the new "discovery," goes on one of those post patterns, this time he’s going to run into an experienced safety with a rough disposition.
I don’t know if the emotional factors play much in Oakland’s favor here; if there was some real positive momentum it runs a risk of getting stunted in the bye week, and they catch a Pittsburgh team that is not only a little miffed about their loss to the Pats on national television, but also want some revenge for last year’s last-second loss to the Silver and Black, where they gave up three TD passes to a Bruce Gradkowski, who grew up watching this franchise as a kid. Maybe this is a "down to earth" moment for Oakland.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS at TENNESSEE TITANS
Odds for NFL Picks Week 11:
Tennessee -7
Washington +7
Total 44
If you were to assert that a team that has obvious fundamental advantages over its opponent and is coming off a loss in a home game is not about to under-achieve, we’re not going to argue with you too hard. But consider that creating some distance with the opponent is always an adventure with Vince Young, who isn’t accurate enough in his long passing to make a potent connection with Randy Moss.
Sure, Donovan McNabb is a bit of a sham, and so is his very breakable contract. But when you give up 59 points in a game that does provide some motivation to come back and do something extra to get that bad taste out of your system. Just ask the Titans, who were shut out 59-0 at New England, then turned around and won seven of their next eight. We’re not saying that’s the kind of thing that can happen with these Redskins, but you are almost certainly get an honest effort. Hell, even Albert Haynesworth may even come to play against his former teammates, and hopefully he won’t give a Randy Moss-type speech about them in the post-game press conference.
NFL PICK – WEEK 11: WASHINGTON +7

BUFFALO BILLS at CINCINNATI BENGALS
Odds for NFL Picks – Week 11:
Cincinnati -5.5
Buffalo +5.5
Total 44
One of these teams is 1-8. The other is 2-7. But it’s the team with one win that is probably having more fun right now, because it’s been trying hard and just broke the ice. The Bengals obviously had higher expectations and aren’t coming close to them. They are packing it in for the season, and the fact that they got a cover against Indianapolis last week is most likely more of a statement about where the Colts are with all of their offensive injuries (and maybe a look-ahead to this week’s game against the Patriots?). the Bills have played well enough to win in each of the last four weeks, only to come away with three losses by a field goal. Here’s a team (Cincinnati) that has covered five of its last 24 games when they are laying points, and as Buffalo knows all too well, when things go in the dumpster, guys like Chad Ochocinco are no fun to be around.
NFL PICK – WEEK 11: BUFFALO +5.5

DETROIT LIONS at DALLAS COWBOYS
Odds for NFL Picks – Week 11:
Dallas -6.5
Detroit +6.5
Total 46
The Cowboys, as usual, are hard to gauge, because they have the talent but at this point you really don’t know whether they are going to show up from week to week. Could a team at 2-7 actually have a "letdown" after beating the Giants in Jason Garrett’s first game as head coach? Hey, these are the Dallas Cowboys we’re talking about. Detroit is a team, incidentally, that has come to play just about every week, at least judging from the way they have exceeded the oddsmaker’s expectations (8-1 ATS). I wouldn’t look for them to let up now. Dallas has failed all five times as a favorite. Jon Kitna is facing his former teammates – some of them anyway (since Jim Schwartz arrived, there’s been a lot of roster turnover). In terms of drama, that doesn’t really compare with McNabb vs. the Eagles or Favre vs. the Vikings, but it’s not too bad.
