NFL Picks – Washington at Jacksonville

December 25, 2010

Two teams that betting fans just can’t seem to get a read on will meet in an NFL picks matchup that is important for the playoff chances of the Jaguars and key for the psyche of the disappointing Washington Redskins.

Donovan McNabb continues to tell his side of the story of his benching to the media and distractions abound for the ‘Skins but the Jaguars have their own issues.

Who will come out with a big win in this one?

Washington Redskins at Jacksonville Jaguars

1 pm Sunday

Pro Football Betting Line: Jacksonville favored by 7.

The Jaguars ran into the Colts at the wrong time as they had to go on the road and play a hungry team with a dialed-in Peyton Manning last week.

It’s a game that the vast majority of teams in the NFL would have lost and that should be taken into account when betting on this game.

The Redskins are weak against the rush, 27th in the league in fact, and they will have a hard time slowing down Jacksonville. The Jaguars of course will bring Maurice Jones-Drew to the fold as one of the best running backs in the league.

He is the reason the Jags are the NFL picks favorite in large part.

The Redskins’ run defense was bad with Albert Haynesworth for much of the year and now that he has been shut down for the remainder of the season the defense is even worse and has given up 4+ yards per carry each week since.

The Jaguars will need to pass some to loosen up defense, however, and David Garrard seems fine after undergoing tests on his hand.

As long as the NFL picks underdog Jaguars can throw a little bit to keeps the defense honest, they will have a field day on the ground against a Redskins team that should be about ready to pack things in.

Rex Grossman is starting again and had his moments in last week’s game but it won’t be enough to beat a good team on the road this week in Jacksonville.

NFL picks winner: Jacksonville (-7).
