NFL Picks for Week 12 – Philadelphia Eagles Visit Chicago Bears

November 28, 2010

The Chicago Bears are coming off an extended week of rest after facing one of the worst quarterbacks in the league and continue to stun everyone by having value in NFL picks. Their fortunes could very well take a turn for the worst when they face one of the best quarterbacks the league has to offer. Can Michael Vick continue his magical season against the fearsome front seven of Chicago?

The success of Philadelphia is staged around Vick, but you can’t ignore the talent on this team. DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy deserve just as much credit for turning the Eagles in to a juggernaut as Vick does. The talent on this offense is undeniable, and the amount of speed they possess has made them a gold mine in NFL picks with Vick setting records in the pocket and out of it.

However, the weather conditions for this game look to play a big factor. It’s not that I fear Philadelphia in the cold because they’re used to it. Soldier Field is not only a grass field, which slows down play, it’s also subject to crazy wind which could very well limit both teams in the air.

That’s ironically a bigger problem for the Bears in NFL picks than it is for the Eagles. Can you really trust a pass heavy team like the Bears who can’t consistently score on the ground or when passing?

Philadelphia Eagles (7-3) vs. Chicago Bears (7-3)
Sunday, November 28th — Soldier Field — 4:15pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Philadelphia -3.5 (42.5)

Jay Cutler hasn’t been the hero in Chicago that many expected him to be when they acquired him. In his last 10 games at home, Cutler has gone just 3-7 ATS and historically the Bears are brutal when it comes to hosting the Eagles. Chicago is just 2-4 ATS and 1-5 SU in their last 6 games when hosting Philadelphia in NFL picks.

Chicago’s defense is incredibly strong, and a big reason why they’ve been winning games. But their 14.6 points per game average is misleading. They’ve gone just 3-2 SU and 2-2-1 ATS in the last five games against teams with a collective record of just 20-30 SU. That’s not great.

If Chicago is truly a great defense, then they’ll shut down the second best offense in the league. Philadelphia averages 28.4 points per game, and can kill you on the ground just as well as they do through the air.

In all honesty, I’m just not convinced that Jay Cutler is a great quarterback, and the fact that he only put up 16-points against Miami when he had a billion chances in perfectly fine weather makes me suspect of this team.

Unless Philadelphia generates turnovers in this game, they’re a no-brainer in NFL picks as they visit Soldier Field and continue their definitive march to the playoffs on Vick’s coattails.

NFL Picks – Philadelphia -3.5 (UNDER)
