NFL Picks – Chicago Bears Getting Monster Spread Against Lions
October 3, 2009
It was a long time coming for the Detroit Lions, but they finally got their win after twenty tries. Now Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are ready for the Superbowl! Ok, just kidding. Great for Detroit, but it seems the oddsmakers aren’t giving them any sway on the betting line. They’re double-digit dogs on the road in Chicago despite going 6-1 ATS in their last 7 roadies.
The Bears are not as good as their record indicates. Seattle combusted at the end to give the game to the Bears, and they were lucky against Pittsburgh. I’m not saying the Green Bay is indicative of their abilities, but they are allowing 203.0 yards against through the air.
This is going to be an aerial battle between Stafford and Cutler, but the former malcontent from Denver is going to have the easier time. Detroit has given up 358.0 passing yards per game, and if Matt Forte is looking for a bounce back game, it may be against this front-seven, which allows 157.0 rushing yards against.
Detroit Lions (1-2) vs. Chicago Bears (2-1)
Sunday, October 4 th — Soldier Field, Chicago — 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Chicago -10 (39)
That being said, the oddsmakers have to make this game attractive for those that like big road dogs. The Bears aren’t exactly reliable at home, going 2-3-1 ATS at Soldier field, and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against Detroit. In almost all the betting trends, Detroit gets the nod, as does the OVER, which as been pushed in 4-of-6 when these NFC North division teams clash.
I’m not saying that the Lions are going to win in Soldier, but I’m airing on the side of caution with a team that is clawing its way out of the basement against a playoff pretender. Jay Cutler is on a roll, but that receiving corps has a nasty habit of giving up interceptions instead of fighting for the ball.
Furious Free Pick: Detroit +10 (OVER)
