NFL Picks –Chiefs Still Winless

September 2, 2010

Ask anyone in their organization, and you will be told that the Kansas City Chiefs improved in the offseason. Just don’t look at their preseason record. While it is only exhibition play, an 0-3 start to the preseason can’t be what head coach Todd Haley and his new staff had in mind to open this year. Now, with the Green Bay Packers in town for the final tune up before the regular season, the Chiefs look to score that elusive victory in the NFL Picks.

While Chiefs’ fans can’t be excited about their team’s fortunes for the coming season, the same cannot be said about the Cheese Heads of Lambeau Field that can’t wait for the regular season to begin. Big things are expected for Green Bay in 2010-11, and wins over the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts have done nothing to quell those hopes. With one game left before their season opener at Philadelphia, the Packers have little to prove, but will take the field Thursday aiming to keep the ball rolling as they make their way towards the games that count.

NFL Picks: What The Packers Will Have To Do To Win

After averaging 31.0 points per game through their first three preseason contests, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that the Packers would be able to beat the winless Chiefs on the road this Thursday. However, with nothing left to prove, and huge expectations for the coming season, it is unlikely that head coach Mike McCarthy would want to risk injury to any of his core players for a meaningless game against an opponent that has to want this one a whole lot more. If the Packers come to play, they should get the win. I’m just not sure it matters to them a whole lot right now.

NFL Betting: What The Chiefs Will Have To Do To Win

Unlike the Packers, a grumbling fan base and pressure from ownership has Kansas City head coach Todd Haley gunning to end his team’s preseason winless streak in front of their home crowd. The Chiefs open the regular season with a Monday night match up against the division rival San Diego Chargers, and with the talent and depth that the perennial AFC West threats boast, a loss against the Packers could mean five straight carrying in to the regular season for Kansas City.

NFL Picks: Outlook & Pick

There is much more urgency in the Kansas City locker room than there is in the Packers’, and with three solid games, particularly on offense, it has to be expected that Green Bay suffers a bit of a letdown before the regular season gets underway next week.
