NFL Parlay Picks – Steelers vs Bengals
November 8, 2010
Hey – has anybody got a quarter? As we look at NFL parlay picks for the Monday night game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals, we also observe the tendencies when it comes to the teams and their performances in each of the four quarters. Maybe this gives us some insight as to how the game will play out, but more importantly, for purposes of this conversation, we get to take a few of these bets and put them into a parlay, where all the bets you make have to win (any pushes on a bet "pushes" it back to the remaining bets for your decision).
An example of one of the plays we’re going to use involves who will "win" the first quarter, where the Steelers are a -190 favorite, with Cincinnati at +155. That is one of the plays we will include in our NFL parlay pick for tonight’s action.

I’m going to use a few of the special props that are available for Monday night’s game in my NFL parlay pick.
NFL parlay pick – Part 1
1ST QUARTER
Pittsburgh -190
Cincinnati +155
This is a nice price on the Bengals to "win" the first quarter. Even though they have been rather uninspired this season, they may get some of that "Monday night feeling" with the nationwide cameras on. Not that the Monday night home dog is such an "automatic" play any more. Don’t get me wrong; it used to be. But the Steelers don’t seemed to get going offensively in the first and third quarters; only in the second and fourth. So far they have scored 24 points in the first period, 54 in the second, 16 in the third and 53 in the fourth. Cincinnati has scored 24 points in the first quarter as well.
NFL parlay pick – Part 2
3RD QUARTER
Over 7.5 Points -115
Under 7.5 Points -115
For some reason, the Steelers have played VERY low-scoring third quarters. I don’t know if it is a matter of their defense making the necessary adjustments while their offense does not, but that numbers are there. Pittsburgh has scored 16 points in the third quarter all season, and has allowed only nine. That means that there has been an average of 3.6 points scored in the third quarter of their games. That is unusual, when you consider that in the final quarter, the Steelers have averaged over two touchdowns between themselves and their opponents.
NFL parlay pick – Part 3
4TH QUARTER
Over 10 Points -130
Under 10 Points +100
Both the Bengals and the Steelers have been involved in fourth quarters that are rather high-scoring. Cincinnati averages 12.4 points per game, while Pittsburgh averages 14.6 points. Steeler opponents have scored 49 points in the final period, by far more than they have permitted in any other quarter. Since I am expecting that the is going to be a tight game, I don’t know if I am looking for the teams to kill the clock or just play things out toward the end. I could go with the Bengals to win the quarter straight-up at a price of -140, but we can get a slightly better price here.
NFL PARLAY PICK:
1st Quarter: Cincinnati (+155)
3rd Quarter: Under 7.5 (-115)
4th Quarter: Over 10 (-130)
