NFL Parlay Picks – Saints With a Must Win
December 11, 2010
The theme of our NFL parlay picks this week could very well be "Who dat got the must win?" except that the New Orleans Saints aren’t really in the "must win" situation, unless maybe it’s to get home field advantage throughout the entire playoffs.
One of the teams in our three-teamer, the San Diego Chargers, certainly have to win or they are going to be out of the playoff race. As for the Green Bay Packers, as well as they have played, can you believe that they are still not guaranteed anything as far as a post-season berth is concerned? Let’s stake a shot with our NFL parlay picks for Week 14 action.

Part 1
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS at SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
NFL Odds:
San Diego -7
Kansas City +7
Total 47
Certainly the Chargers cannot lose this week. They are two games in back of Kansas City, and if they drop this one they can’t mathematically overtake the Chiefs, because they will have been swept. In terms of the wild card, they would be dead too. What a shame for a team that is probably the best in the division, but you simply can’t make the kinds of mistakes they have made on special teams. You can’t lose twice to the Oakland Raiders. You can’t get off to slow starts year after year and not expect that it is going to catch up to you sooner or later. yes, San Diego is #2 in total offense and #1 in total defense, but I think this line reflects their desperate state more than anything else. Sure, the Chiefs have benefited form a cake schedule, but Kansas City is not a complete pretender.
NFL Parlay Picks – Part 1: KANSAS CITY +7
Part 2
ST. LOUIS RAMS at NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
NFL Odds:
New Orleans -8.5
St. Louis +8.5
Total 46.5
The Saints have opened up a two-game lead over the Tampa Bay Bucs in the NFC South, so I don’t think they are in danger of being overtaken. And they have a one-game lead over Philadelphia and Green Bay in the wild card chase. They still play Atlanta again, and that offers a chance to win the division title if they continue to rack up victories. It doesn’t give us a lot of confidence that the Saints allowed 18 points in the fourth quarter to the Cincinnati Bengals last week. Remember that the Rams are very legitimately and very squarely in the race for the NFC West championship, and they are tied with a very shaky Seattle Seahawks team. St. Louis does some pretty good things on defense, and they have gotten to the passer a lot (35 sacks). Sam Bradford’s last seven games have seen him throw eleven TD passes with just two interceptions. Don’t disqualify this Rams team; they can keep it close.
NFL Parlay Picks – Part 2: ST. LOUIS +8.5
Part 3
GREEN BAY PACKERS at DETROIT LIONS
NFL Odds:
Green Bay -6.5
Detroit +6.5
Total 46
Okay, we have to give kudos to the Lions for hanging in there with the Bears last week and getting the cover. They are now 5-1 against the number at Ford Field, but they have also lost five game sin a row. Green Bay has held each of its last four opponents to 300 yards or less, and we know who we would take in a quarterback duel between Aaron Rodgers and Drew Stanton. The only question here is whether we can feel comfortable laying this many, and what we can say without equivocation is that there is quite an upside to rookie running back James Starks, who looked like a real NFL draft sleeper until he got hurt in his final season at Buffalo (the university, that is, not the Bills).
NFL Parlay Picks – Part 3: GREEN BAY -6.5
