NFL Parlay Picks – Chargers vs Broncos

November 22, 2010

The Chargers versus the Broncos. What kind of game will we see? This is where we get the chance to do our NFL betting picks, and we do them on the Monday night game between the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos, where you will be seeing very capable passing attacks, running games that have the ability to serve as a tremendous complement, and other units that can be, well, somewhat dysfunctional.

The game is set to kick off at 8:30 PM ET at Qualcomm Stadium (natural turf) in San Diego. The Chargers are the favorite by 8.5 points, with the total at 50 points. So what can we use for our NFL parlay picks.

Denver Broncos (3-6 SU & ATS) at San Diego Chargers (4-5 SU & ATS)

Live at Qualcomm Stadium

San Diego, CA

Monday, November 22 –  8:30 PM ET

TV:  ESPN

NFL Odds:

San Diego -8.5

Denver +8.5

Total  50

I see that there are plenty of reasons to look at the total in this game. Certainly the technical trends point us in that direction. Denver has played five of its last six games overall, and six of its last eight road games, over the total. San Diego has played seven of its last nine home games, and six of its last eight overall, over the total. So should we use this in our NFL parlay picks?

I think so. My feeling is that Phillip Rivers is going to be able to move his team no matter what, and that he’ll be able to come into this game with as full a complement of receivers as he’s had for a while. Sure, some of them, like Antonio Gates, are banged up and won’t be 100%, but that kind of thing usually hasn’t been enough to prevent him from playing. And Randy McMichael is more than adequate as his backup. In fact, before they went to the bye week, he caught two TD passes against the Texans.

Bringing Malcolm Floyd (21.4 yards per catch) and Legedu Naanee (16.5) back allows Rovers to go further down the field, and Denver’s defense, which as just 13 sacks and only five interceptions, is the type to allow him to matriculate his way down the field, as Hank Stram used to say. Denver’s Kyle Orton has been able to put together great numbers for the most part without any kind of running threat, and now he’s got the availability of Knowshon Moreno (106 yards vs. Chiefs last week), which should make this offense a little more efficient.

So OVER 50, where we lay -110, is going to be part of our NFL parlay picks.

We’d also like to use some kind of "win" proposition on the Chargers as part of it, but last year they were machine-like coming down the stretch. In their last eight games San Diego scored 31, 32, 43, 30, 20, 27, 42 and 23 points before the playoffs got started. Th year before, they got the engine started a little later, coming on to win their last four with an average of 37.5 points. And in ’07 they averaged 30 points in their last six games. Yeah, there’s a pattern that we can’t ignore as we ponder our NFL parlay picks.. Considering the circumstances here, it is very, very possible that this team can get to the 30-point mark. We’re going to go OVER 28.5 for the Chargers at -125.

So in summation, we are on an "over" kick this week. We’re taking OVER 50 (-110) on the total and OVER 28.5 on the Chargers’ total (-125) in our NFL parlay picks for Monday night.
