NFL Parlay Pick: Tampa vs Washington & Cincy vs Cleveland

October 4, 2009

Is Tampa Any Better With Josh Johnson Against Washington?

The Bucs have stripped Byron Leftwhich of his starter duties after the quarterback managed just 22-yards passing against a stiff Giants’ defense. Now they thrust Josh Johnson in to the spotlight to see what he can do. This is a guy that Raheem Morris has said would be no better than a backup in his entire career. Against a Redskins defensive line starring Albert Haynesworth, Washington will be able to wreak havoc on Tampa’s young offensive line. The pass defense of Washington has allowed just 198.0 yards per game, ranking them 11 th.

The Bucs have been a mess this season, going 0-3 ATS. They’re 3-5-1 ATS in their last 9 games, and while they’ll have Antonio Bryant back in the fold, they’re simply not a team proving that they are ready to protect their betting investors.

The Redskins haven’t been any better on the football betting line, going 1-6 ATS in their last 7 at home and have failed to get the ball rolling against the Giants, Rams and Lions. Sure, they beat the Rams, but they couldn’t get in the endzone. No team is poised for a bigger turnaround than the Redskins, especially when they were embarrassed by giving the Lions their first win.

Both teams are doing terrible this season, but the Redskins have the talent to put up a fight with their backs against the wall. This could be a career game for Josh Johnson, but considering that he is pegged as a “career backup” by his current coach, I wouldn’t be threatened by him.

Furious Free Pick: Washington -7.5 (UNDER 37)

Bengals To Demolish Browns In AFC North Battle

The Bengals could be 3-0 SU if they hadn’t let Brandon Stokley pull a miracle out of his ass. The scary thought is whether they had kept T.J. Houshmandzadeh instead of letting him go in free-agency. The Bengals are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games, and 4-2 ATS in their last 6 against Cleveland. The offense is in sync (finally) with some added balance from Cedric Benson, who tallied 76-yards and a score to help the Bengals win in the fourth quarter against Pittsburgh.

The only shining hope the Browns have is that Derek Anderson is back in the fold. To be honest, he never deserved to lose his starting job to Brady Quinn. The young Notre Dame prospect was supposed to be the future in Cleveland, but all he’s been is a bust. Anderson threw three interceptions as he tried to play catch-up against Baltimore, but with a week as the starter in practice, I suspect Anderson may have enough in his back pocket to push the OVER in this game.

Still the Bengals look sneaky good. Sleeper pick? If you got on this bandwagon early, then good for you. Ride it this weekend until it proves you wrong.

Furious Free Pick: Cincinnati -6 (OVER 37.5)
