NFL Odds Week One – Denver at Jacksonville

September 12, 2010

The NFL season kicks off in Florida this weekend as two AFC playoff contenders meet in Jacksonville for a showdown that should be close according to the NFL odds.

The Broncos have a lot of question marks while the Jaguars are also trying to sort out players at key positions.

Many NFL odds predictions have had various picks for this game as it’s week one and not a whole lot is known about both squads.

Who has the edge going into this week’s matchup?

Denver Broncos at Jacksonville Jaguars

NFL Odds Week One: Jacksonville favored at -3.

The Broncos don’t have a whole lot of big-name players on offense but they have a scheme that works and they stick to it.

They’ve always been able to run the game and Knowshon Moreno has helped jumpstart the running game pretty well in his young career, solidifying a backfield situation that has been in flux for much of the past decade since Terrell Davis retired.

But NFL betting odds fans should take into account Jacksonville’s solid run defense in this one.

If Kyle Orton is unable to manage the game he loses some of his effectiveness. Orton is able to throw over the top and put up some numbers as he showed in his college days at Purdue but not consistently enough especially considering his average WR corps.

Jacksonville meanwhile has more weapons in this NFL betting odds matchup. Maurice Jones-Drew will find it to be tough sledding against the Broncos defense on the ground but if David Garrard can be accurate as usual it will open things up eventually for a few scores from MJD.

This should be a close one but playing at home against a Broncos team adjusting to life without pass-rushing phenom Elvis Dumerville gives the Jags the edge in week one.

NFL Odds Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars (-3).
