Point Total: 36.5
The surging Eagles are favored by the biggest line of the week as they play host to the 5-9 Minnesota Vikings. Due to questions at QB, this line has been up and down all week.
Philadelphia plays great on the grass. In their last 8 games on grass, they’ve gone over the total 7 times. They have won 3 straight games, and have gone over the total in 9 of their last 10.
The Eagles are coming off a stunning win, as they put up 4 TDs in the last 7:42 against the Giants. They are one of the most efficient offences in the league. The Eagles are poised to score in this game, and can really put up some numbers. They are averaging 29.4 points/game, surrendering 24.2.
Minnesota has struggled to score consistently, averaging only 17.4 points/game, losing 7 of their last 9 against the spread. In their last two losses (to Chicago and New York Giants), the Vikings have scored 17 total points and given up 61.
Due to injuries at quarterback, Tavaris Jackson is on the IR and Brett Favre looks aged and extremely doubtful for Sunday. That leaves 3rd string option Joe Webb, who looked dismal last week outdoors against Chicago.
Philly is 6th in passing (254.2 average) and 4th rushing (149.7 average). Their defense and special teams is also powerful. They lead the league with 23 interceptions to go with their 9 INTs. Those gaudy stats give them a conference leading +14 in takeaway differential. Minnesota on the other hand is an NFC-worst -14.
The Eagles will be looking to make the Vikings throw the ball to keep Adrian Peterson (questionable for Sunday) limited and increase their chance at takeaways.
Philadelphia is healthy coming into this game and riding a huge wave of momentum. Vick, Jackson, Maclin and McCoy are all huge threats to expose the Minnesota secondary on Sunday night.
Free Pick on the NFL Odds: Looking at the stats, it’s tough to take anything but the Eagles in this matchup. Due to Minnesota’s injuries and Philadelphia’s inspired play, I will be making a small play on the Eagles, and hitting the Over as well.
