NFL Odds Pick – Cleveland at Buffalo in Chilly New York

December 12, 2010

The Browns and Bills are set to clash in an NFL odds matchup that could see the revival of the old school style of football in Buffalo.

The weather is starting to get wintry again and that usually favors the team with the best running game.

Will that story hold true again on Sunday?

Pro Football Betting Line: Bills favored at -1

The Browns are used to being the underdog and they seem to play well in that role. Non the road in Buffalo with .500 in their sights, expect them to be motivated.

But the NFL odds favorite Bills have seen newfound motivation with the rise of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Stevie Johnson, who dropped a potential game-winning TD pass two weeks ago, also has a lot to play for and has been motivating his teammates to have his back and finish out the season strong.

The intangibles seem about even for these two teams, who are out of the playoff picture, but the action should be fierce nonetheless.

Cleveland’s best hope in this one is RB Peyton Hillis, one of the most physically imposing running backs in the NFL.

Hillis is the kind of guy that the NFL odds underdogs can feed the ball to over and over and get increased returns on each carry.

With Buffalo having suffered key knee injuries to two contributing offensive linemen last week, their ability to run the ball and protect the passer in the elements will be severely limited against a decent Browns defense.

The Bills have been throwing the ball well but it will be tough if the weather ends up as expected: rain and 34 degrees are not conducive to a high-flying passing attack.

If Jake Delhomme can manage the game and not try to do too much, the Browns should walk out winners on Sunday.

They beat Buffalo 6-3 last year and an ugly victory of a similar score is quite possible again this time around as long as they let Hillis run the ball and control the clock on Sunday afternoon.

NFL Pro Football Winning Pick: Cleveland Browns (+1).
