NFL Betting Lines:

New York Jets (-3) vs. Cleveland Browns (+3)

Total: 37.5

A few weeks ago, this matchup would have sounded like an absolute route, but now, I wouldn’t be so sure.

The Browns have played one of the toughest stretches of any team in the league lately. With games against Pittsburgh, New England, New Orleans and now the Jets, Cleveland is running into steep competition. However, their play has been surprising and profitable.

Browns-backers have cashed in against the spread and moneyline in the last two meetings against the Patriots and Saints. With great special teams, trick plays and improved play from Colt McCoy, the Browns aren’t a joke anymore.

New York is trying to rally back from getting shut out two weeks ago against the Packers, and a near-defeat to the Detroit Lions in Week 9. The Jets have covered in 8 of their last 10 road games, and that has been thanks to their stout defense.

Cleveland has played well at home – they’ve covered 6 of 8 and haven’t given up more than 20 points at home all season. The total for this game is a low 37.5, and that’s for good reason.

The Jets are only allowing 16.2 points/game on the season and they are effective against the run. Peyton Hillis is coming off a monster game, but the Jets have limited entire teams to only 87 yards on the ground.

While I’m tempted to take the Browns as a home underdog, I’m more inclined to look at the low total for this game. Going UNDER 37.5 may seem risky, but these teams’ defense will take most of the spotlight on Sunday – and this is the most attractive part of the NFL odds for this matchup.

Go UNDER 37.5 and take the Browns ATS for a small wager. Watch for a 17-16 Jets victory in a game that will be a lot closer than many think. This is a better Browns team against a very solid defense. The ball will stay out of the endzone.
