NFL Odds – New Orleans vs. Atlanta on Monday Night Football

December 28, 2010

The battle for the NFC betting South will reach what could be its final act tonight as the NFL odds matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons could decide the division.

With a playoff spot still not secure for the defending champion Saints and the division still there for the taking, fans are expecting a brilliant game from Drew Brees and company.

But will it be enough for the Falcons, the current NFC kingpins?

New Orleans Saints (10-4) at Atlanta Falcons (12-2)

8:35 pm ET

NFL odds: Atlanta favored by 2 ½.

For the Falcons to win this one they will have to feed off the energy of the home crowd and get a good pass rush against Brees.

While their secondary is solid, Brees is one of the best pocket passers in the league and one of the best at throwing the deep ball.

Giving him time is a recipe for disaster against any secondary and that has been proven time and time again.

Last week the offense was on target but the defense let the Saints down; they will have a tough time facing a balanced Atlanta offense this week as well.

The NFL odds favorite Falcons are 6-0 SU at home this week. With a win, they clinch the division.

The Saints need a win tonight and then a win next week and another Atlanta loss to clinch the NFC South.

A loss tonight and a loss next week could spell doom for the Saints as well as it would possibly not be enough to clinch a playoff spot depending on what their counterparts from Green Bay and New York do in the final week of the NFL betting regular season.

The Saints have more of a sense of urgency because of that scenario as they know they need to win this week in order to accomplish their ultimate goal.

While they sleepwalked a bit early in the season, they’re dialed in on offense in the passing game and have gotten some key players healthy.

The Saints are trouble indoors in controlled conditions. As long as they can contain the strong Atlanta running game they will come out on top in a statement game on Monday night.

NFL odds pick: New Orleans Saints ss
