Are the Dallas Cowboys back? They beat the NFL betting odds as 14-point road underdogs last week vs. the Giants and will now be favored by nearly a touchdown at home vs. the Detroit Lions.

The 2010/2011 season started out disastrously for Dallas and head coach Wade Phillips. The Cowboys started out 1-7 straight up and against the spread and Phillips lost his job. Last weekend’s shocking win has increased the odds and pushed Dallas back into their usual position: favored.

While Detroit only has 2 straight up wins on the year, they have crushed the NFL spread. The Lions are riding the league’s worst road losing streak, but they have covered a blistering 7 of the last 9 games. With Detroit, you rarely bet the moneyline, but the spreads are generous enough to make serious cash.

The Lions may be 1-6-1 ATS against teams with a losing record in the last 8 meetings, but we can throw that stat out in this matchup. Any other 2-7 team would only be favored by 3 or 4 at home, not 6.5. While Dallas has a great shot at winning this game, it doesn’t look like it will be by more than a field goal.

The Cowboys have still not won at home this season – coming off a rare win to a home crowd may work against them as they play into renewed pressure and expectations.

Dallas is nearly last in the league in rushing yards, and is 21st and 23rd against the pass and run. Detroit throws the ball more than any other team in the league and has the weapons in Calvin Johnson, Nate Burlson and pass-catching RB Jahvid Best.

Both of these teams will score points. They have combined for 13-5 on the Over-Under totals on the season. Look for a lot of touchdowns and the Lions try to keep pace with Dez Bryant and Miles Austin. With so much throwing in this game, the clock will move slowly – giving the Over even more chance to get smashed.

If you want to follow the trends on NFL odds this season, stick with the Lions against the spread and take the Over. This should be an entertaining morning game because of the scoring potential and a profitable one if you take my advice.
