NFL Odds – Titans Continue Season Without Young This Sunday In Houston
November 26, 2010
If there was one game on the calendar that the Tennessee Titans could have used quarterback Vince Young in, it would be this Sunday. The former Texas quarterback has always performed incredibly in the state where he played his college football, but after he suffered a thumb injury that landed him on the Injured Reserve last Sunday, NFL odds makers now know that he will be unavailable when the Titans travel to take on the Houston Texans.

While the incident between Young and head coach Jeff Fisher after last Sunday’s 19-16 overtime loss is significant in that the signal caller was told he wasn’t welcome at a team meeting on Monday, the first step towards reconciliation happened later that day when Young supposedly text the coach an apology. Only time will determine how much of a distraction that will play in this Sunday’s AFC South showdown, against a Houston team that has lost four straight.
NFL Odds: What The Titans Will Have To Do To Win?
Fisher will need to make sure his team has the right mentality in this game, which is one of the reasons that he banned Young from the facilities. Veteran Kerry Collins takes over under center, and will need to play as good as he did earlier this season. Tennessee will continue to carve wide receiver Randy Moss a bigger role in the offense in his third game in baby blue, and there may not be a better opponent to do it again than the Texans, which have the worst pass defense in the league. Tennessee will also need a massive performance from Pro Bowl running back Chris Johnson in order to keep pace with a talented Houston offense.
NFL Odds: What The Texans Will Have To Do To Win?
After opening the season with four wins in six games, which included victories over the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins, the Texans have lost four straight to fall below .500. If they are going to have any chance of getting back on track, it begins with a defense that has surrendered at least 29 points in each of those losses. Houston has lost by one score in each of its last three games, and if they can regain the balance between the run and pass that worked so well earlier in the year, that could make up the difference. Running back Arian Foster is a star, but wide receiver Andre Johnson isn’t too bad himself and the Titans are ranked 26th against the pass.
NFL Odds: Outlook & Pick
While the Titans should be able to keep this one close, there is too much working against them to think they can steal a crucial road win. Tennessee will be traveling, after a heartbreaking overtime loss, without their star quarterback, and burdened by the controversy surrounding his exit. That is all the room a talented Texans’ team that has lost four in a row should need to bounce back at home.
NFL Odds Pick: Texans -6.5
