NFL Odds – Moss Returns To Scene Of The Crime In Titans’ Debut Sunday

November 14, 2010

NFL odds makers know that it was one month ago that wide receiver Randy Moss walked off the field at Sun Life Stadium without a single reception beside his name on the score sheet for the first time since 2006. Then, he was a member of the New England Patriots. Four weeks and two teams later, Moss is set to chase that reception in his debut for the Tennessee Titans against the Miami Dolphins.

Tennessee Titans @ Miami Dolphins
Sunday November 14, 2010 – 1:00 PM ET
Sun Life Stadium, Miami, Florida
Broadcast: CBS
NFL Odds: Titans -2, Dolphins +2
Total: 42.5

The Dolphins are still searching for consistency after splitting their four games since the bye week, including last weekend’s 26-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. They’ll look to get back on track against one of the team’s they are chasing for an AFC Wild Card in the 5-3 Titans, who are also looking to rebound following a 33-25 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

NFL Odds: What The Titans Will Have To Do To Win?

Although it seems that the majority of talk about the offense is centered around the play of quarterback Vince Young, this unit is built around the talents of running back Chris Johnson, who has averaged 4.1 yards per carry with eight touchdowns this season. The Titans will need to get Johnson more touches after the Pro Bowl rusher was held to just 59 yards, and that will be a challenge against a solid run defense in Miami. When Tennessee does try to move the ball in the air, Moss will need to step right in and contribute, especially considering the injuries to the team’s receiving core.

NFL Odds: What The Dolphins Will Have To Do To Win?

Miami ranks near the middle of the league against both the run and pass, and will need to be particularly strong against the rush with the Titans looking to get Johnson more touches. Despite being at the .500-mark to this point in the season, the Dolphins are still winless at home through three games and will need to get a faster start. Running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams have averaged 4.3 yards per carry to this point in the season, but have combined for just three touchdowns to this point. Miami will need more production from its backs as the team struggles to find an identity in the passing game.

NFL Odds: Outlook & Pick

It may take some time before Young and Moss develop the chemistry needed to take advantage of both of their talents. While most coaches might force the issue with their latest acquisition, head coach Jeff Fisher understands it will take time before Moss finds his rhythm, and will give the ball to Johnson to get the job done. Miami has been inconsistent all season, and that will continue until the team establishes a firmer identity on offense.

NFL Odds Pick: Titans – 7
