NFL Odds – Jets Aim To Make It Six In A Row When They Welcome Packers Sunday

October 30, 2010

NFL odds makers know that after barely making the playoffs last year, the New York Jets dominated their way to the AFC Championship game, where they fell one quarter short of a Super Bowl with a loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Gang Green surprised many with their improbable run, but after such a solid postseason in head coach Rex Ryan’s first team, it isn’t very shocking that they have had so much success early this year.

The Jets are undefeated through five games since opening the season with a 10-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and after resting through last week’s bye will now have a shot at making it six straight when they welcome the Green Bay Packers.

Green Bay Packers @ New York Jets

Sunday October 31, 2010 – 1:00 PM ET

New Meadowlands Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey

Broadcast: CBS

NFL Odds: Packers +6, Jets -6

Total: 43

Considered a favorite in the NFC before the season got underway, the Packers were desperate for a win against the division rival Minnesota Vikings last week following consecutive overtime losses. Green Bay got their victory, by taking down Brett Favre and his new team with a 28-24 win, and will look to make it two in a row this weekend with a chance to move in to first place.

NFL Odds: What The Packers Will Have To Do To Win

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will likely hit the 2,000 yard mark in this game, and has already thrown 12 touchdowns this year. Considering the Jets rank seventh against the rush, Rodgers will need to have another big game on the road to get the win. The Packers’ defense has struggled this year after a promising first season in the 3-4 defense, and will need to step up, particularly against the run where they rank 23rd in the league.

NFL Odds: What The Jets Will Have To Do To Win

The game plan is simple for Ryan’s team. Attack relentlessly on defense, and pound the rock on offense. The Jets’ only loss this year was a 10-9 defeat at the hands of Ryan’s former team, the Ravens, and since New York has been nearly flawless. Running back LaDanian Tomlinson is showing he is not finished in the NFL with an average of 5.3 yards per carry and five touchdowns, while Shonn Greene is adding 4.5 yards per carry.

The two backs have led the Jets to the second-ranked rush attack in the league, and will need to continue to make plays. The defense has done well up front stopping the run, but will need to step up in a major way to stop Rodgers and the Packers’ air attack. New York is ranked just 22nd against the pass.

NFL Odds: Outlook & Pick

While the Packers have played well this season, two overtime losses is the difference between a 6-1 start and their 4-3 record. The Jets will send them to .500 with their sixth straight win, with a solid effort coming off the bye.

NFL Odds Pick: Jets – 6
