NFL Odds – Can Dallas Continue Their Stellar Play Versus Philadelphia?
December 12, 2010
Before the season started Football Betting Odds are that you had the Dallas Cowboys trying to hold off the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14 but the opposite is true.
Dallas won all three meetings with the Eagles last season and would love to put a dent in Philadelphia’s playoff aspirations with a win in the first of two games between the clubs in the next four weeks.

The Philadelphia Eagles are NFL Odds favorites to win the NFC East and possibly advance to the Super Bowl in the city that they visit on Sunday. Since Michael Vick came back from a rib injury, the Eagles have looked like a virtually unstoppable force.
The Eagles have become one of the most balanced offenses in the NFL. They have the 7th ranked passing offense (256.67 yards per game) and the 5th ranked running game (144 yards per game). They have incredible weapons in the passing and running games.
Michael Vick is simply the most dynamic player in the game. He leads the league with a 105.7 passer rating with 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions and he has added six rushing touchdowns on 467 yards. When he hands the ball off, Vick has LeSean McCoy who has gone for 823 yards this season. McCoy also leads the team in receptions with 67.
Along with McCoy, Vick has Jeremy Maclin and the uber-dangerous DeSean Jackson to throw the ball to. The Eagles could be the most dangerous offense in the last decade!
Defensively, the Eagles have been somewhat vulnerable against the run. They give up 103 yards per game on the ground but they have given up an average of 130 yards rushing in their four losses this season. The 17th ranked pass defense will get a huge boost this week with the impending return on Asante Samuel from injury.
The Dallas Cowboys are NFL Odds winners of three of the four games that they have played under interim coach Jason Garrett. With a little luck, they would have beaten the New Orleans Saints on Thanksgiving Day and would be 4-0 in the last month.
Dallas’s success has coincided with their commitment to the run. Since Jason Garrett has taken the reigns, the 24th ranked Cowboys have rushed for 595 yards, culminating in a 217 yard effort last week against Indianapolis. Tashard Choice is getting his touches, Felix Jones is running better and Dallas has reaped the rewards.
The Cowboys can still throw the ball. They are still ranked 5th in the NFL with an average of 265.92 yards per game. Jon Kitna has been taking care of the ball and has a 107.9 passer rating in his last four games. With Dez Bryant out for the season, passing numbers may me more difficult to come by. Bryant leads the team with eight receiving touchdowns.
The Dallas defense has yet to get going this season. They have allowed 33.4 points per game in their last four games and have allowed over 35 points in five of seven. They are ranked 28th versus the pass (254.08 yards per game) and are 15th versus the run (107.83 yards per game).
NFL Odds Outlook:
The Philadelphia Eagles are 4-1 SU in their last five games and are 4-2 SU in their last six on the road. Philadelphia is 1-4 SU in their last five games versus the Cowboys and is 2-4 SU in their last six trips to Dallas.
The Dallas Cowboys are 4-9 SU in their last 13 games, are 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS in their last six at home. Dallas is 4-1 SU in their last five games against Philadelphia, 4-2 SU at home in their last six at home versus the Eagles and are 5-10 ATS at home in their last 15 versus the Eagles.
The Spread in this game suggests that this could be another close AFC East game but I think differently. The defensive problems that the Cowboys had under Wade Phillips still exist. The Eagles are going to score a bunch in this game and the combination of Asante Samuel coming back for the Eagles and Dez Bryant being out for the Boys spells doom for Dallas. I like the Eagles by at least 10.
NFL Odds Pick: Philadelphia Eagles -3 ½
