NFL Odds – Bears Look to Start Another Winning Streak Against Carolina

October 10, 2010

The Chicago Bears looked absolutely dreadful last week but NFL Odds are that they will bounce back this week against a Carolina team that is in search of their first win of the season. Carolina has some issues but you can bet that their defensive coordinator was scouring tape of what the New York Giants were able to accomplish last week.

CHICAGO BEARS (3-1) vs. CAROLINA PANTHERS (0-4)
Sunday, October 10, 1:00 PM ET
Bank of America Stadium
Broadcast: FOX

NFL Odds:

Chicago: -2 ½ (-110)
Carolina: + 2 ½ (-110)

Moneyline: Chicago -140: Carolina +120

Total: 35 ½ points

The Chicago Bears had been defying the NFL Odds by going 3-0 but those odds caught up to them and bit them in the ass last week. The whole offense laid an egg last week – I guess we’ll have to give them a mulligan! The offensive line gave up 10 sacks and was responsible for the early departure of Jay Cutler after he sustained a minor concussion on one of the multitude of hit that he took.

NFL Odds are that Cutler will return this week and will have had a few words for the gang that is being paid to protect him. Before last week, the Bears had a Top 10 passing offense (last week they only managed 114 yards passing) and Jay Cutler was taking care of the ball. The rushing offense still rank 31st in the NFL but at least Matt Forte is contributing in the passing game.

Mike Martz has had a huge influence on this offense. They are more well rounded and they are a threat every time that they step out onto the field.

The Carolina Panthers are off to another miserable start. Preseason optimism is a thing of the past for Panthers fans and NFL odds are that it will be a long season in Carolina. They currently own one of the worst total offenses in the NFL and a defense that will not steal too many games.

Carolina jettisoned Matt Moore to the sidelines after only two starts, opting to go with rookie Jimmy Claussen. Now Carolina has the worst scoring offense in the NFL, has the 28th ranked passing offense and the 17th ranked rushing offense. Their only real threat, the run, will be severely tested by Chicago`s sixth ranked rush defense.

Carolina`s defense is middle of the pack and shouldn`t present too many problems for the Chicago offense, assuming that Cutler is healthy. They are 16th against the pass and 18th against the run.

NFL Odds Outlook:

Chicago is 5-1 S/U in their last six games, but is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 overall, 6-11 ATS in their last 17 on the road and 2-7 ATS in their last nine games on grass.

Carolina is 13-6 S/U in their last 19 home games but is just 1-4 S/U in their last five overall. The Panthers are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall.

The one thing that the Carolina Panthers do right on offense is the thing that the Chicago Bears are the best at defending. If the Panthers can`t run the ball, they are dead in the water. Steve Smith will likely not play this week allowing the Chicago defense to further stack the box in order to stop the run. If Cutler is healthy, this should be an easy win for the Bears.

NFL Odds Pick: Chicago Bears – 2 ½
