NFL Odds – Battle of This Decade’s Best QBs Headline Sunday Action
November 26, 2010
NFL Betting Odds are that we will never again witness the best quarterback of all time going against two other Top 10 quarterbacks of all time in consecutive weeks.
But the schedule makers have given us a treat. After losing to Tom Brady last week, Peyton Manning and his Indianapolis Colts will have to regroup and prepare themselves for Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers.

The San Diego Chargers waited longer than usual to heat up and go on their annual mid-season run. While most had thought the NFL odds had caught up to this team, three straight wins have them just one game out of first place in the AFC West. A big test lies ahead – the Indianapolis Colts on their home turf is no easy task.
Phillip Rivers has been THE MVP of the league so far this season. He and his passing offense has been the best unit all season and have averaged 306.5 yards per game. This without Vincent Jackson for the whole season and Malcolm Floyd, Antonio Gates and Legadu Naanee for stretches during the year. Jackson and Gates should be available this weekend.
The San Diego running game has been a bit of a disappointment, ranking 17th, but Mike Tolbert was an absolute beast last Monday night.
San Diego’s defense has defied NFL Odds all season long. They have maintained a #1 ranked pass defense (183.9 yards per game) and a #3 ranked run D (86.8 yards per game) and have recorded an impressive 32 sacks along the way.
The Indianapolis Colts, aside from the Carolina Panthers, are the most banged up club in the NFL. Both offense and defense have been affected but in true Colts form, they have ignored the NFL Odds and they have kept on winning.
Peyton Manning currently has the Colts passing game ranked 2nd in the NFL with an average of 299.6 yards per game. There has been no Anthony Gonzalez, no Dallas Clarks and even Austin Collie has missed significant time. Manning has amassed 3059 yards, 20 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions with names like Jacob Tamme, Blair White and Pierre Garcon.
The 27th ranked running game has missed Joseph Addai and Mike Hart and has been forced to rely on Donald Brown and Javarris Jackson. Addai and Collie have a chance to return this week, bolstering a good but not yet great offense.
The Indianapolis defense has also had its share on injuries. Bob Sanders has been out all season and Clint Sessions and Gary Brackett have missed significant time. Chances are the Colts will get Brackett and Sessions back this week and the Colts could use them. Indianapolis has the 30th ranked run defense (136.70 yards per game) and the 8th ranked pass D (207.7 yards per game). They allowed an unheralded Patriots running game 168 yards last week in a loss.
NFL Odds Outlook:
The San Diego Chargers are 16-6 SU in their last 22 games but are just 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five on the road. The Chargers are 4-1 SU in their last five versus the Colts, are 10-3 SU and 5-1 ATS in recent meetings in Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis Colts are 18-7 SU overall in their last 25 games and are 19-2 SU in their last 21 at home. They are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six overall and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games at home. Indianapolis is just 1-11 ATS in their last 12 games when hosting the Chargers.
This is a tough game in which to pick a winner. Indianapolis has been money at home, except against the Chargers. This game will likely come down to who takes care of the ball. The Chargers have 22 giveaways on the season so far while the Colts have just 13. For that reason, I will have to take the Colts.
NFL Odds Pick: Indianapolis Colts -3 and the Over 52 points
