NFL NFC Sunday Recap: Saints Keep Marching and Giants Spoil Cowboys New Stadium Debut
September 21, 2009
We’re only at Week 2 in the 2009 NFL Season and already the battle lines have been drawn. In the AFC, the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens look like the teams to beat. In the NFC, it’s all about the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants.
Yes, Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick were on the bench when the Saints beat up on the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday, but, as I have already stated to a number of NFL betting friends of mine, Donovan and Michael don’t play defense. The Saints rolled to a 48 to 22 victory over the Eagles, a team that looked like Super Bowl Contenders in Week 1, to easily cover the pick’em contest.
New Orleans might be impossible to beat ATS this year. Oh, they won’t go undefeated straight-up, but teams that can score the way they can, think the St. Louis Rams in the late 1990’s and the Indianapolis Colts in the early 2000’s, are virtual locks to cover spreads.
The Saints score in bunches and no doubt should go to the top of any NFL odds watching fan’s list of teams to bet. This team is scary good betting wise.
The New York Giants might be the team to beat for the NFC Conference Championship. They found a way to beat the Dallas Cowboys on the road in the ‘Boys’ new stadium, and no doubt are once again at the top of the NFC heap. They do have to play the Saints this year, and didn’t cover the spread in Week 1 against the Washington Redskins, which means that BetOnline online sportsbook NFL betting fans shouldn’t bet these guys blindly, but in most cases, they will probably be a team that gamblers can count on.
The G-Men dominated the line of scrimmage in the second half of their 33 to 31 victory over the ‘Boys for a +5 win above the football betting line.
In other NFC games:
The Washington Redskins almost embarrassed themselves at home, and went 0 and 2, against the hapless St. Louis Rams. The ‘Skins found a way to pull out a 9 to 7 victory, but failed to beat the spread as they were 10 point favorites ATS.
Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears welcomed the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Windy City and promptly beat the defending champions as 3 point underdogs. It was a nice victory for the Bears and Cutler who looked terrible in Week 1.
The Detroit Lions were up 10 to 7 at half time of their game against the Minnesota Vikings, but couldn’t keep it going and eventually fell to Minnesota by a score of 27 to 13. The Vikings made the necessary adjustments during half time, are now 2 and 0 straight-up and against the spread, and are living up to the hype that surrounded them during the off season.
The Arizona Cardinals bounced back from their Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49’ers by dominating the Jacksonville Jaguars 31 to 17. As 3 point underdogs on the road, the Cards absolutely demolished the NFL football odds line.
San Francisco is now 2 and 0 ATS and straight-up as they hosted the Seattle Seahawks, and beat the Seahawks 23 to 10. The 49’ers now have the inside track to the NFC West Division title as they have beaten two division opponents in their first two games of 2009.
Finally, the Carolina Panthers played much better on the road in Atlanta than they did at home against Philadelphia in Week 1, but it just wasn’t enough as the Falcons pulled out a 28 to 20 victory and a +2 win above the football betting line. Carolina is 0 and 2 in danger of not making the playoffs in 2009. Such is life in the NFL!
