NFL Monday Night Showdown
December 16, 2008
The Cleveland Browns (4-9 SU, 6-6-1 ATS, 6-7 O/U) have dropped three straight games in the BetOnline Sportsbook and have absolutely nothing to play for at this point.
The Philadelphia Eagles (7-5 SU, 8-5 ATS, 6-7 O/) have won two straight games and will look to continue their late-season push for a playoff berth when they host the beleaguered Browns at Lincoln Financial Field tonight.
The Browns are coming off a dismal 28-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, failing to cover the spread for BetOnline NFL sports betting backers as a 14-point road underdog.
"What we’re doing is not enough," Cleveland linebacker D’Qwell Jackson said. "Guys have to do a little extra. I wish I had a magic wand to wave and fix all of the problems, but I don’t. That’s life for us this year."
Third string quarterback Ken Dorsey completed 22 of 43 passes for 150 yards with an interception for Cleveland while veteran running back Jamal Lewis was held to seven yards on seven carries.
The Eagles are coming off a solid 20-14 win over the New York Giants covering the spread for backers as a 7-point road underdog last week.
"We’re in a position now where we have to win them all," Westbrook said. "We’re going to take them one week at a time but we have to win them all to get into the playoffs."
Quarterback Donovan McNabb, benched just three weeks ago, completed 19 of 30 passes for 191 yards a one touchdown while elusive running back Brian Westbrook rushed for 131 yards with one touchdown run and another TD grab in the win.
"Anything can happen in the NFL, so you just have to make sure that you take care of your business and you can’t worry about really anything else," Eagles head coach Andy Reid said.
While Philadelphia is hoping for a wild card berth in the NFC, the Browns and head coach Romeo Crennel are reportedly about to part way after suffering through its third losing record in Crennel’s four seasons.
"I can’t be worried about that," he said. "Rumors and stories, they’re going to be out there. When you lose, that’s what happens. Not only for me but for other people in the league."
Here is a look at tonight’s key betting trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and NFL Free Pick:
Cleveland is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 13 of Cleveland’s last 19 games
Cleveland is 16-8 ATS in its last 24 games
The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Cleveland’s last 9 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Philadelphia’s last 8 games at home
Philadelphia is 5-2 SU in its last 7 games at home
Philadelphia is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games at home
NFL Odds
Cleveland Browns +15 -110
Philadelphia Eagles -15 -110
Over 39½ -110
Under 39½ -110
Analysis: I’m not real fond of the high point spread in this contest, but I think the Birds are going to narrowly cover as the Browns don’t have much wind in their sails – or desire in their collective hearts at this point.
The Browns almost certainly won’t see the end zone very much tonight, while I’m thinking Brian Westbrook is just about ready for his third consecutive overwhelming performance.
NFL Free Picks: Eagles -15 Points/Over 39½ Total Points
