NFL Lock Alert – Seahawks Host Titans, Both Look to Close Out Season on High Note

Titans vs. Seahawks (+4)
(O/U) 44
Sunday, January 3 – 4:00 PM ET

NFL Betting Trends:

  • Titans are 10-3 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Titans are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
  • Seahawks are 5-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Seahawks are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games as an underdog.
  • Over is 5-0 in Titans last 5 vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Over is 7-3-1 in Seahawks last 11 games following a S.U. loss.

While the Tennessee Titans (7-8 SU, 6-9 ATS, 9-6 O/U) and Seattle Seahawks (5-10 SU, 5-10 ATS, 7-8 O/U) won’t be going to the playoffs, one team has a whole lot more to play for than the other in this Week 17 regular season finale.

Tennessee 411
The Titans had their faint playoff hopes dashed in their 42-17 Week 16 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

The Titans failed to cash in for pro football gamblers as a 3-point home favorite as Vince Young was picked off twice by the Bolts and Tennessee never had a chance to beat the streaking Bolts.

However, the Titans, winners of seven of their last 10 games, have a twofold reason for succeeding in this contest. First and foremost, the franchise wants to close out their 2009 season on a positive note after unleashing a frantic finish on the league in the chase for a playoff berth despite being hampered by a pitiful 0-6 start.

Secondly, the team wants to help two-time Pro Bowl running back running back Chris Johnson become the sixth player in NFL history to reach 2,000 yards.

Johnson, Tennessee’s only Pro Bowl starter this season, is 128 yards away from becoming the first 2,000-yard rusher since veteran back Jamal Lewis reached the magic number with Baltimore in 2003.

Johnson, who also leads the NFL with 2,355 total yards from scrimmage, needs just 75 more to eclipse the NFL record held by legendary dual threat Marshall Faulk.

"Of course, the 2,000-yard mark is not an individual goal," coach Jeff Fisher said. "That’s a team goal. It’s just not CJ. That’s an opportunity for his offensive teammates to be part of the history book, so it’s not just Chris Johnson. It may on the outside looking in. It’s not inside this building."

Seattle 411
The Seahawks have lost three consecutive games including their 48-10 spanking at the hands of the Green Bay Packers in Week 16.

Veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw for 198 yards with one touchdown and a whopping four interceptions as Seattle failed to cover the NFL moneyline as a 13.5-point road underdog

The Seahawks have gone 0-3 ATS over its last three games and a bankroll-breaking 3-7 ATS over its last 10 games overall.

Analysis: This game – and ATS outcome – are in the bag for the Titans!

The Seahawks have dropped nine games by double digits this season while watching veteran quarterback regress along the way. A former three-time Pro Bowler, Hasselbeck, has thrown a whopping eight interceptions and lost one fumble in his last two games.

The Titans have not scored less than 17 points in any of their last nine games, going a blistering 7-2 SU during the span while topping the 30-point plateau four times during the span and surpassing 40 points twice.

Despite their 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games, Tennessee has gone a bankroll-boosting 10-3 ATS versus a team with a losing record while the Seahawks have gone a pitiful 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games as an underdog.

I say the Titans are a lock t win and cash in for pro football gamblers in this contest.

With the Over going a spotless 5-0 in the Titans’ last 5 versus a team with a losing record and 7-3-1 in Seattle’s last 11 games following an SU loss, I say play the Over in this game as well.
