NFL If Bets – Pair of Underdogs to Rise Up in Pair of Value-Packed Divisional Matchups
January 15, 2011
Looking to nail a NFL If Bet on this weekend’s slate of NFL divisional matchups BetOnline gridiron gamblers?
Well, look no further pigskin players!
I’ve got a pair of NFL If Bets picks for my BetOnline NFL Betting brethren enthusiasts that are looking to string together at least two picks as part of a value-packed NFL If Bets wager.
First however, here is a very brief explanation of what an NFL If Bet is.
[Off topic: by the way, do you want to get a 55% bonus on your first deposit here at BetOnline? If so JOIN NOW.]
An If Bet consists of two or more straight bets joined together by an ‘If Clause”.
‘If’ you nail your first wager, then bettors can proceed on to the next wager. In If Bet wagers, bettors get double action but each wager must be for the same amount or less than the very first wager.
There are two types of If wagers: If win is one type, meaning your wagering selections must be winners. The other type of If Bet is ‘If win or tie’. If a game is cancelled, postponed or graded no action….the wager is graded as a tie.
Okay, with all of that said, let me get down to business.
I like one underdog in each conference to rise up and cash in against the spread as one half of my NFL If Bets selections.
In the AFC, I really like the trash-talking New York Jets to show up and cash in against a point spread I’m surprised in sitting well over a touchdown.
No. 6 New York Jets at No. 1 New England Patriots
When: Sunday, Jan. 16
Time: 4:30 PM ET
Where: Gillette Stadium
TV: CBS
NFL Betting Odds
New England Patriots -8.5
Over/Under 44.5
The Jets have already shown they can beat the Patriots by handling their AFC East division rivals 28-14 as a 3-point road dog on Sept. 19 and I believe they will do so again in this matchup despite getting routed by the Pats 45-3 on Dec. 6.
The Jets looked really good in limiting Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts to just 16 points in its Wild Card win a week ago and I like them to bring their ‘A’ game against the Pats in this one and cash in as one half of my NFL If Bets doubleheader.
New York has gone 5-1 ATS in their last half-dozen January ballgames while also goin9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against their AFC conference rivals and 5-2 ATS in their last seven playoff road games.
I know the Home team has gone 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings between these division rivals, but I say the Jets emphatically snap that streak – and push the Pats for the outright win.
NFL If Bets Pick: New York Jets +8.5 Points
No. 4 Seattle Seahawks at No. 2 Chicago Bears
When: Sunday, Jan. 16

Where: Soldier Field

Chicago Bears -10
Over/Under 41.5
In my NFC portion of this NFL If Bets wagering selection, I like the Seattle Seahawks to pull off the ATS road upset over Brian Urlacher and the Chicago Bears as a whopping 10-point road dog.
First and foremost, the Seahawks likely have the better quarterback in accomplished signal-caller Matt Hasselbeck and I believe the play of the veteran one week ago could be an ominous sign for Chicago in this NFC divisional matchup.
Hasselbeck completed 22 of 35 passes for 272 yards with a whopping four TD passes and just one interception in Seattle’s shocking 41-36 win over New Orleans.
Another factor that could help keep the Bears’ voracious defense a bit more honest is the rushing of veteran back Marshawn Lynch.
The former Buffalo Bills star rushed 19 times for 131 yards and one, unforgettable 67-yard touchdown dash where he broke a whopping seven tackles. If Marsh can get some tough yards against the stingy Bears, Seattle could thrive on a bit of play action.
Just like the Jets, the Seahawks beat their opponents earlier in the regular season, beating Chicago 23-20 on October 17 to cash in as a 6-point home favorite.
Outside of the fact that Seattle has gone 5-1 ATS in their last half-dozen games in the month of January – and 3-2 ATS in their last five games against Chicago, there aren’t many key trends pointing to an ATS cover against the Bears.
Still, I believe Seattle, led by veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, will cover the spread in this one and cash in as the second half of my NFL If Bets picks for the divisional round.
NFL If Bets Pick: Seattle Seahawks +10 Points
