NFL Expert Teaser Pick: Packers, Falcons, Steelers

September 27, 2009

The Furious Parlay of the week is brought to you by the insane amount of coffee streaming through my blood stream right now. If there’s any teaser that I like out there, it’s the Falcons getting points on the road against New England, and an increased spread for the Packers against St. Louis. Here’s the breakdown:

Green Bay’s Offense To Have Field Day Against St. Louis

The Packers had a letdown game against the Bengals last weekend, but St. Louis won’t prove to be a problem. The defense of St. Louis has allowed 404.0 yards and though their redzone defense has given up just 3.5 points per game, they are in for a real surprise when Aaron Rodgers gets to unleash hell in Edward Jones Dome.

The Packers have one real weakness – the offensive line. Losing Chad Clifton is a huge blow, but the Packers won’t have to worry too much about that with St. Louis on the chopping block. The Rams don’t have a pass rush to speak of, and Rodgers will get an easy exhibition to release his passes faster. He lost Greg Jennings, who was slowed down by injury last week, but the number one in Green Bay is at full pace.

Rodgers has only managed to average 186.0 yards for passing offense this season, and has posted an average of 22.5 points in each of his first two games. St. Louis has looked tragically pathetic with a 3.5 points for average. The Rams have gone winless in their last five at home and are 6-15 ATS in their last 21 games. Buy some points in this one to increase your odds if St. Louis gives you a little upstart special treatment. You’ll be glad you did.

Furious Free Pick: Green Bay teased to -11.5 (UNDER 41)

Atlanta Needs Bigger Spread Against New England

Matt Ryan is getting more pressure filled expectations as he keeps winning, and none come bigger than the Patriots in Gillette Stadium. With vengeance on the lips of Tom Brady, who was frustrated by the Jets defense last week, the young Falcons defense will be in for a long day. They’ve allowed 229.5 yards this season, but will thankfully get to pull men back in to coverage and let their front-four handle the Patriots meek rushing attack. New England ranks 26th in the rush with just 78.0 yards per game.

The Patriots need another win badly, especially with the Jets getting looking to improve to 3-0 SU and seize control of the division. A win is in the cards for the Patriots, and with a 3-11 ATS record in their last 14 games at home, I like Atlanta’s chances. That being said, don’t bank on a +4.5 spread for Atlanta. Push it past a touchdown, pair it with a Green Bay tease and you have a winner.

Furious Free Pick: Atlanta teased to +7.5 (OVER 47)

Unpredictable Bengals Face Off With Division Rival Steelers

The Steeler are 5-0 ATS in their last five meetings with the Bengals, but Cincinnati has played admirably in the past two weeks. They lost on a miracle play by Brandon Stokley in Week1, but throttled the Packers on the road last week. Carson Palmer looks shaky, but he can score like there’s no tomorrow. The Bengals have put up 313.0 yards per game and 19.0 points. The Steelers will again miss Troy Polamalu, giving Carson the room to throw all day long.

That being said, the Steelers have a weakness of their own in Willie Parker. It’s time to bench Willie and test the 245-pond, second year player in Rashard Mendenhall. Parker has just 66-yards this season and no touchdowns. The Steelers are engineered around downhill running, and Roethlisberger’s heroics can’t win games every week. Jeff Reed was unrecognizable last week, and that won’t be an issue this week.

Pittsburgh is the play here, but give them a bigger cushion. It hurts your payout, but it’ll definitely give you some relief when the Bengals manage to keep this one tight. The Bengals are 4-1 ATS and 4-2 ATS in their last 6 at home.

Furious Free Pick: Pittsburgh teased to -9 (OVER 37)
