NFL Expert Pick: Brady Quinn vs Flacco & Ravens D

September 27, 2009

NFL Free Picks – Quinn Battles Flacco, Ravens Defense

Brady Quinn fought Derek Anderson off for the starting job, and earned the right to finally prove himself to the Cleveland betting fans who have waited patiently for him to become the starter that they deserve. Yet here Quinn stands, as the 28th ranked quarterback in the league with a 66.9 quarterback rating. With only 366 yards, a lone touchdown and two picks, Quinn’s life isn’t going to get any easier against the Baltimore Ravens.

Two years ago, the Browns burst on to the NFL betting scene as one of the most inexplicable spread bets in the league. Lately, however, those days seem like they were eons ago. The Browns are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games, winless against the betting spread in their last five overall and winless in that same stretch. The oddsmakers are trying to make them an attractive bet against Baltimore, but considering the Ravens’ stout play of late, its hard to imagine Quinn finding his groove against the Ray Lewis and his murder of vultures.

Cleveland Browns (0-2) vs. Baltimore Ravens (2-0)

Sunday, September 27th — MT&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore — 1:00pm EST

NFL Betting Line: Baltimore -13.5 (38.5)

The rise of the Ravens is becoming one of the tell-all stories of the NFL. With a defense that has lost Adalius Thomas and Bart Scott in the past two years, they still manage to find ways to win games and crush hopes across the league. Lewis’s demolishing of Darren Sproles to save a tilt against San Diego is proof of that. En route to their meteoric rise, the Ravens have gone 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games and are 4-2 ATS when playing Cleveland at home.

Of course, this is quite a revolutionary Ravens squad. Their defense is doing their part, but its been quite some time since Baltimore has had a an offense that’s averaged 34.5 points per game. Credit that to the ascension of Joe Flacco to an elite game manager. It may sound like an oxymoron, but its incredibly difficult to find a quarterback in the wood work who consistently puts a team in a position to win. Even in a loss to the eventual Super Bowl Champions, Flacco was exceptional in the playoffs last year.

Quinn was supposed to be the quarterback getting all the praise by now, but instead it’s the nondescript Joe Flacco, a veritable unknown when he was drafted in 2008. Well, by now you know him. And if you love the Ravens, then you trust him to protect you when siding with a double-digit betting line.

Furious Free Pick: Baltimore -13.5 (UNDER)
