January 12, 2009

Alright BetOnline NFL sports betting fanatics, both conference championship showdowns are finally set following a thrilling – and surprising – weekend of NFL football in the BetOnline Sportsbook.

This look back – and glimpse ahead at some important wagering statistics, should help point BetOnline NFL sports bettors in the right direction with their respective conference championship wagering selections.

NFC Breakdown

Let’s start with my hometown team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles 23 Giants 11

Yes BetOnline NFL sports betting fanatics, I know I picked the Giants to win this contest and advance to their second consecutive NFC championship game, but I also advised bettors that the Eagles were playing excellent football going in – and they proved a lot of people wrong, including me.

Cardinals 33 Panthers 13

Now, I’d be lying if I said I thought the Cardinals were going to beat the Panthers, but NFL Locker Room readers that read my selection on Saturday’s contest, knew that I emphatically took the Cards to cover the high spread.

Now, BetOnline NFL sports betting buffs have an improbable NFC title game on their hands – and some tough choices to make surrounding the contest.

Now for a brief look ahead at some key statistics.

NFC Championship Game-

Philadelphia Eagles (-3.5) at Arizona Cardinals

Philadelphia is 6-1 ATS in its last 7 games

Arizona is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games

The total has gone OVER in 4 of Arizona’s last 5 games

Arizona is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games at home

The Eagles are averaging 25.8 points per game to Arizona’s 27.2 points per contest but both teams have upped their averages over their last three contests with Philly putting up 31.0 points per contest and Arizona, 32.3 points per game.

Philadelphia has limited its opponents to just 17.4 points per game this season while the Cardinals have allowed 25.7 points per contest. In their last three contests, Philadelphia has limited its opponents to a paltry 10.3 points per contest while Arizona has allowed 19.3 points per game.

AFC Breakdown

Who ever said defense wins championships knew what they were talking about.

Ravens 13 Titans 10

Although I picked the Tennessee Titans to win this contest as well, I’m not surprised one iota that the defensive-minded Ravens managed to advance to the AFC title game. The fact of the matter is that the Ravens have the best defense in all of football and a strong-armed rookie quarterback that is blossoming before our very eyes.

Steelers 35 Chargers 24

I knew someone would finally expose the Chargers as frauds and that’s exactly what the Steelers did while limiting the Bolts to one offensive play in the entire third quarter – amazing!

Now for a brief look ahead at some key statistics.

AFC Championship Game-

Baltimore Ravens (+5.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5)

Pittsburgh is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home

The total has gone OVER in 10 of Arizona’s last 11 games at home

Pittsburgh is 7-1 SU in its last 8 games

Baltimore is 7-1 ATS in its last 8 games on the road

Baltimore is 7-1 SU in its last 8 games on the road

The Baltimore Ravens are averaging 24.5 points per game while limiting their opponents to just 18.3 points per contest. The Steelers have averaged 22.5 points per contest this season while allowing just 15.4 points per game defensively.

Over their last three contests, the Ravens have allowed 22.3 points per contest while limiting their opponents to just 8.7 points per contest. The Steelers have put up 26.7 points per game over the same span while allowing 18.3 points per game defensively.
