NFL Betting Previews – Colt McCoy To Return Against Bengals In Week 15

December 20, 2010

As Colt McCoy prepares to return to the field for the Cleveland Browns in NFL betting, the Cincinnati Bengals continue to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Losers of the past ten straight games, Cincinnati has continued to shoot themselves in the foot. And now Terrell Owens is up to his old antics.

People complaining about Terrell Owens’ criticisms of the coaching staff and franchise shouldn’t be a surprised.

Seriously, untie your panties. Acting shocked because Owens opened up his mouth and said something harsh is like being startled that Lindsay Lohan is back in jail or doing drugs.

Owens shouldn’t be panned for his candid nature. The Bengals stink. Everyone knows it from the coach through the owner right down to Carson Palmer. So why is it so bad that somebody says it? It’s not. The Bengals aren’t even coming close to living up to expectations as they’re just 4-9 ATS in NFL betting this season.

Cleveland Browns (5-8) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (2-11)

Sunday, December 19th — Paul Brown Stadium — 1:00pm EST

NFL Betting Line: Cincinnati -1.0 (40.0)

The Browns haven’t been much better despite the fact that the public has stockpiled their NFL betting bandwagon. At just 1-4 ATS in their last five games, they haven’t been that valuable for their backers. Blame anything that you want to, but the reason they’ve been kryptonite in the sportsbook has as much to do with Jake Delhomme as anything else.

Now that Colt McCoy is back, the betting populous should be inclined to lean towards the Browns, but Cincinnati is simply too high powered offensively to be taken lightly. Cleveland is seemingly much more stable with McCoy under center but he’s simply been out of action for too long to grade this game on him alone.

So now we find ourselves betting not on McCoy, but on Peyton Hillis who has been as reliable on the ground as any back in the league. Cincinnati ranks 25th in home rushing defense, giving up 129.8 yards per game so this looks like a great NFL betting matchup for the Browns. The problem is that Hillis becomes less effective as games continue, and as Jacksonville proved, McCoy is not exceptional when trying to capitalize with nominal field position.

However the Bengals excel at one thing and that’s finding new ways to lose. People who have been banking on this team to capitalize on their talent have been left wanting. Watching Cincinnati’s season is like watching a roulette table come up red twenty times in a row, so you bet black thinking that the tide will change. Except it doesn’t.

The safe pick in NFL betting is Cleveland, but I wouldn’t be stunned for Cincinnati to finally get their act together either.
