NFL Betting Online Favorites – Are Tom Brady and the Pats Ready For Bad Boy Jets?

September 19, 2010

The NFL betting online favorite for this Sunday’s gargantuan battle between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets are…surprise! The Pats. That’s right. The Patriots are favored to beat the Jets on the road by a whopping 2 points.

Hey, any time a road team is favored in the NFL football handicappers should take notice. This game is no different although the bad blood between these two teams is the stuff of legend. At least Bill Belichick won’t have to tell everybody how much he hates Rex Ryan because outside of New York, it seems like everybody hates Rex Ryan.

Were Ryan to coach his team to a victory over New England this weekend, he’d get back into the good graces of NFL football handicappers no matter what he said or didn’t say to that reporter from AZTECA TV.

The trends point to the Pats as the NFL betting online ATS option in this game.

  • The New England Patriots are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games on the road versus a team with a losing road record.
  • The New England Patriots are 10 and 1 ATS in their last 11 meetings with the Jets in New York.
  • The New England Patriots are 9-4-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings between these two teams.
  • The New York Jets are 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 games at home.

New England Patriots was fantastic last Sunday when blowing out the Cincinnati Bengals 38 to 24 as 5 point favorites. The fact that New England was a 5 point favorite instead of a 3 point favorite means that many football handicappers truly believed that the Pats were better than the Bengals.

They showed it on the field last Sunday. The Jets are going to be a more difficult team to deal with this Sunday. Almost everybody is jumping off of the Jets’ bandwagon after their 10 to 9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Jets, favored by 1 point by the time the game kicked-off, was a hot NFL betting online pick to win the Super Bowl this season. Not anymore.

New York doesn’t seem to have much of an offense and that’s the reason that football handicappers are deciding to jump ship, but looks can be deceiving. Yes, the Jets had only 176 total yards of offense against the Ravens, but they played the Ravens. The Ravens’ D is still one of the best, if not the best, in the NFL.

New England’s defense looked good against Cincinnati, but how good is it, really? I’ve go the feeling that the Jets are going to buckle down and run a lot of stuff through LaDainian Tomlinson this Sunday. The former Charger All-Pro will probably receive around 20 carries and get his number called repeatedly for underneath stuff. Coach Rex Ryan isn’t going to keep counting on fumbling maestro Shonn Greene when so much is at stake.

The New York Jets need to make sure to stay out of harm’s way early. They can’t afford to get down 24 points the way that the Bengals did when they faced the Patriots last Sunday, but if they can do that, if they can weather the Patriots’ storm, then I feel that the Jets can win this game. I believe that the Jets, even though many NFL betting online fans have bailed on them, are being disrespected in the sportsbook for Sunday’s game. They shouldn’t be a 2 point dog playing at home.

Yes, New England looked good against the Bengals, but the Jets almost beat the much, much better team in the Ravens. Again, looks can be deceiving. I believe that the Jets’ offense plays much better against the Patriots this Sunday than it did last Sunday and that the Jets’ D finds a way to get to Tom Brady even though DL Kris Jenkins is out for the season.

I’m backing the New York Jets to win this game straight up at +110
