NFL Betting on Thanksgiving – Saints and Cowboys in what should be a shootout

November 25, 2010

Probably the best NFL Betting Thanksgiving Day Football games features a team that might have been the biggest disappointment in the entire NFL up until two games ago. The Dallas Cowboys are still going to look back at this season as a disaster, but with a new era under Jason Garrett having started with consecutive wins, and a chance to take down the New Orleans Saints on Thanksgiving, it’s all of a sudden not so dismal in Big D. But before we get carried away, this is a team that had dropped seven of their first eight NFL Betting games and are going up against the New Orleans Saints, who are still very good.

New Orleans Saints (8-2) vs. Dallas Cowboys (2-8) (Cowboys Stadium – Dallas, TX)
Thursday November 25th – 3:30 PM ET

Considering how well Dallas has moved the ball the past few games, this one has the makings of a shootout as we all know that the Saints love to put up points. The question is, does Dallas have what it takes to go shot for shot with one of the NFL Betting heavyweights in the NFL. I’m sceptical about that as although Jon Kitna has shown he can move this offence, this is a wily Saints defence that are known to jump routes and love to make big defensive plays.

NFL Betting Spread:
New Orleans Saints -4 ½, -210
Dallas Cowboys – +170
Total – 49

As long as Dallas is competitive in this one, Jason Garrett wins. He doesn’t even have to beat the Saints, because no one really expects them to. The fact that he’s won two in a row already makes him a saint in the eyes of Cowboys fans, especially considering they beat the rival New York Giants two weeks ago. That being said, this Cowboys team is 3-7 for a reason, and New Orleans is 7-3 for a reason, the Saints are just a better all around NFL Betting squad.

Where the Saints have the biggest advantage is at the quarterback position. Drew Brees is up there with Brady and Manning, and when he’s on, this team is one of the most dangerous in the league. He’s 31 yards shy of 3,000 on the year, and is getting stronger as this NFL Betting season progresses. Guys like Marques Colston are starting to pick it up, evident by his eight-catch 113 yard performance last week, which included two touchdowns. Expect more of that from Brees’ number one target, and although the Cowboys will put up some points of their own, won’t have enough to hang with this Saints.

The play for this Thanksgiving Day showdown is on the Saints. I also like over as this NFL Betting showdown figures to be a high scoring affair.

NFL Betting Pick: New Orleans (-4 ½)
