NFL Football Betting Odds: Minnesota Vikings (+1) vs. Washington Redskins (-1)
Point Total: 43.5
Will the Vikings be able to emerge from a head-coach-firing in the same way the Cowboys did? As Brad Childress leaves town, and Favre remains, can the Vikings bounce back from their brutal 2-8 ATS (3-7) record?
There are obviously a lot of questions in Minnesota as they head into the end of this disappointing season.
Minnesota is still winless on the road at 0-5, without a cover away from the Dome. The ‘Skins are 5-5 SU this year, with only 4 ATS losses. They play better at home and will be up for this very winnable game.
The Redskins are 10th in the league with 247.5 passing yards/game – while the Vikings have given up 218 yards/game. The Vikings will need to center on the pass defense, as Ryan Torain and Clinton Portis are still limited with injuries.
For Minnesota to have a chance at winning this game, they will need to run the ball. Adrian Peterson has 980 yards and 7 TDs on the ground, but has been under-used this season. As the Vikings have fallen behind, they have needed to throw in many more situations – especially late in the game.
If Washington is able to come out quickly and score, they will be able to keep Peterson in check, by making Favre need to drop back. Favre has 10 TDs to 17 INTs this season – many of the picks coming in inopportune situations (2nd half, 4th quarter).
Washington is averaging 20.2 points/game, 3 more than Minnesota’s 17.2. The Redskins ability to score points with fewer mistakes under center should give them the edge in this matchup.
NFL Free Betting Pick: With an NFL betting matchup that looks this close, go with the home team – especially when they’re only giving up 1 point. Take McNabb to connect with Santana Moss against the relatively weak Minnesota secondary and cover this one point spread.
