The Chiefs are a team that just keeps winning even though it just doesn’t feel right. Right now they sit at 5-3 and are a half game ahead of the Raiders. They are a full game and a half ahead of the San Diego Chargers – who were heavy preseason favorites. They have dropped 3 of their last 5 however, and their schedule has not been very tough. The Chiefs are just 1-point football betting favorites over the Broncos. Can they matchup against the struggling Broncos?
Kansas City Offense
Prior to last week, Matt Cassel had not thrown an interception since Week 3. That is what he really needs to do in order to be an effective quarterback. He is just not accurate enough to be consistent, so what he needs to do is keep the ball out of the hands of the defense. The Chiefs have an offensive line and a running game to compliment him, however.
The tandem of Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones might be the best 1-2 in the league. Charles is currently the most explosive back in the NFL with Chris Johnson having his effectiveness limited. The more times they put the ball in the hands of Charles, the better they will be. His injury from last week appears to be minimal and won’t affect his Week 10 output.
Denver Offense
Denver’s offense is summed up in 2 words: Kyle Orton. The running game is non-existent. Seriously – the team’s leading rusher is Knowshon Moreno who has gained just 252 yards on 76 attempts. Nobody else has triple digits and the closest to that is Kyle Orton who has gained 90 yards on the ground. It is crazy, but there is definitely no team in the NFL more reliant on their quarterback than the Denver Broncos. This is not to discount the excellent performance Brandon Lloyd has had all season as their big play guy, but really – it is mostly on Orton.
Pick: Kansas City Chiefs (-1)
The Chiefs are not without their flaws and they are what they are. However, their pass defense is very good and a one-dimensional team like the Broncos will have trouble doing much else if their passing game is contained.
