Green Bay is in a tight NFC playoff race and will need a big victory to keep pace with the 7-3 Chicago Bears. The Packers are 5-4 ATS while the Vikings have only covered twice. This will be the second time these teams face off in 2010.
In an exciting Week 7 matchup, the Packers covered as 3-point favorites. The Packers defense managed to hold off a last second Vikings drive – Percy Harvin was not able to come down in bounds and the Packers came away 28-24 victors. This game has the same spread. That same Packers D also totaled up 3 interceptions, 6 hits on the QB and 1 sack.
The teams combined for 52 points, with a definite possibility for 7 more on the final drive. Aaron Rodgers threw for 295 yards. The Over has hit in 15 of the last 21 matchups between these division rivals.
Green Bay has been effective against lower ranked teams – putting up 7 ATS victories in their last 9 against teams with losing records. Further pushing the case for the Packers, Green Bay may be on the road, but they’re coming off a bye week. With a week’s rest to plan for this familiar opponent, Green Bay is in good shape for a covering victory.
The Vikings limited success this season (3 SU victories) have come at home. They’re 3-1 in Minnesota and are pretty much done if they are unable to pull out a victory. They will be in tough as Green Bay is averaging 24.6 points a game, giving up only 15.9 – including a shutout against the Jets. The Vikings on the other hand, have only been scoring at an 18.8 point/game pace – giving up 21.7.
NFL Free Pick:
Take the Packers to beat the Vikings. I don’t see this contest as a close matchup at all. The Vikings have been able to win at home this year, but not against superior competition like Green Bay. Consider one of the best teams in the NFC only spotting 3 points to a 3-6 team with an interception-prone quarterback. Given the point differential and Green Bay’s ability to change the game on defense, this is an easy bet to make.
