NFL: Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks

Game-day: 9/27/2009

Kick-off: 4:05 pm EST

The Chicago Bears travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in a game that both teams need to win. The Seahawks dropped some in the power rankings because of their loss to the San Francisco 49’ers. Seattle was brilliant in Week 1 against the St. Louis Rams and have a decent group on both offense and defense, but will be without QB Matt Hasslebeck in this game. Hasslebeck is holding out hope that he’ll be able to play this Sunday, but all indications from injury experts are that Hasslebeck won’t suit up. The job of running the ‘Hawks offense will fall to Seneca Wallace.

Chicago was very, very good on both offense and defense last Sunday when taking down the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Chicago bounced back from a terrible opening Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The best thing that came out of the victory over the Steelers was the fact that QB Jay Cutler threw for 238 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Cutler looked like a Pro Bowl quarterback against a very good defense.

Here are the BetOnline online sportsbook football betting odds for this game.

Chicago Bears -2 -110 -135 O 37 -110

Seattle Seahawks +2 -110 +115 U 37 -110

Here are a few online wagering trends for this game.

The Chicago Bears are 3-7-1 against the spread in their last 11 games overall.

The Under is 4 and 0 in the Chicago Bars last 4 games on the road as the favorite.

The Seattle Seahawks are 10-4-1 against the spread in their last 15 games at home.

The Under is 5 and 1 in the Seattle Seahawks last 6 games at home.

Under the BetOnline Total looks like a solid wager in this game. This is especially true because the Seahawks will be without QB Matt Hasslebeck, but the truth about this matchup is that Chicago should be favored by much more than 2 points.

Because they aren’t tells me one thing, that the Seahawks are very, very tough at home straight up. I have to take that to heart. Chicago has proven that under adverse conditions, aka a tough team at home, they can fail.

I predict they will do so again on Sunday night. Seneca Wallace isn’t a bad quarterback and Seattle has a huge advantage with that crowd. I’m going for the upset.

The bet is on Seattle to beat the Chicago Bears straight up at +115 in the sportsbook.
